  • Patent number: 5366357
Abstract: The scroll type compressor includes a stationary and orbiting scroll members, of which the spiral elements are interfit at an offset angle to form line contacts defining at least one fluid pocket, and an anti-spin mechanism for causing the orbiting member to orbit within the stationary member. A drive shaft is rotatably supported in a housing, and has an outer end a cylindrical inner end and, depending upon the embodiment, either a crank pin or a sliding guide portion projecting axially inward from its inner end. A drive bush couples the drive shaft to the orbiting scroll member, and has either a circular aperture for receiving the crank pin or an engaging slotted recess for receiving the sliding guide portion, as the case may be, whereby the drive bush is either pivotable or slidable with respect to the drive shaft. A counterweight is mounted on either the crank pin or the sliding guide portion between the drive bush and the drive shaft, and is coupled to the drive bush for conjoint movement therewith.

  • Patent number: 5249943
Abstract: A scroll type compressor which includes a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll. Each scroll includes an end plate, a spiral element, at least one airtight compression chamber formed between the fixed and orbiting scrolls, a discharge port, and a drive mechanism for revolving the orbiting scroll relative to the fixed scroll, for compressing fluid in the compression chamber. The fixed spiral element and the orbiting spiral element include relatively thick tip portions having oppositely disposed flat faces. These faces are arranged in such a way as to periodically approach each other during the revolution of the orbiting scroll. A buffer portion is provided on at least one of the flat faces of the fixed and orbiting tip portions, for preventing over-compression of the fluid trapped between the flat faces.

  • Patent number: 5242283
Abstract: An improved scroll type compressor having enlarged fixed and orbiting spiral element tips with parallel flat faces is disclosed. A discharge port for discharging compressed fluids is positioned in the fixed end plate. The discharge port is shaped to provide an opening that is effectively elongated adjacent the flat face of the fixed spiral element. In one preferred embodiment, the discharge port has a pair of elongated sides that extend in parallel with the flat face of the fixed spiral element. Another preferred embodiment the discharge port includes a plurality of holes arranged such that a common tangent to the perimeter of the holes is substantially parallel to the flat face of the fixed spiral element. A tapered surface may also be provided in the flat face of the enlarged tip of the orbiting spiral element to improve communication between the compression chamber and the discharge port.

  • Patent number: 5240392
Abstract: In a scroll type compressor, a movable scroll is engaged with an immovable scroll so that spaces are formed for taking in a fluid including a lubricating oil mist to be compressed. The movable scroll is revolved around a central axis of the immovable scroll so that, as the spaces are displaced toward a center of the immovable scroll, a volume thereof is reduced to compress the fluid therein. The immovable scroll has a passage through which each of the spaces is communicated with a discharge chamber upon reaching the center, whereby the compressed fluid is successively discharged through the passage into the chamber. An oil-separating plate is disposed in the chamber at a given level lower than the passage, and a reed valve is provided at the passage.

  • Patent number: 5222883
Abstract: A relatively small diameter scroll type compressor is disclosed. The axial center of the compressor's shell is displaced from the involute center of the fixed spiral element in a direction towards the base end portion of the orbital scroll. More specifically, the displacement distance (X) is in the range of: 1/2R.sub.or <X.ltoreq.1/2R.sub.or +1/2(t+c), wherein "t" is the thickness of a base end portion of the orbiting spiral element and "c" is the minimum clearance between an outer wall of the orbital scroll's base end portion and the inner wall of the shell.

  • Patent number: 5221198
Abstract: A scroll type compressor comprising a stationary scroll member (2) and a movable scroll member (4) accommodated in a housing (10, 39), the scroll members (2, 4) being engaged with each other so that the movable scroll member (4) is subjected to an orbital motion around the stationary scroll member (2) and forms compression chambers (39) therebetween, in which chambers (39) a coolant gas is compressed by a volume reduction of the chamber (39) in accordance with the orbital motion, and is discharged therefrom to a refrigeration circuit. An intake port (8) for introducing the coolant gas into the housing (10, 30) is provided at a position closer to lubrication indispensable mechanisms such as a main bearing (32) or a sealing means (31) while confronting the periphery of a counterweight (35). The coolant gas is sucked into the interior of the housing (10, 39) and fed to the lubrication indispensable mechanisms (31, 32).

  • Patent number: 5217358
Abstract: In a scroll type compressor, a discharging port in a side plate of a stationary scroll member is formed in an elongated shape, such as an oval, so that a tip-seal element provided in the beginning area of a movable spiral body does not interfere with the discharging port in the course of an orbital motion, whereby damage to the tip-seal element due to a draw-in thereof to the discharging port can be avoided, while ensuring a sufficient fluid pressure and full sealability.

  • Patent number: 5151020
Abstract: A scroll type compressor has a stationary scroll (1) and a movable scroll (2) rotating around the former in an orbital manner, while forming volume variable sealed spaces therebetween to compress a coolant gas. To reduce a wall thickness of the scroll, an outer wall curve (E.sub.1.sup.+) of the scroll (1,2) is defined by the modification of a basic involute curve (D.sup.+) by reducing a certain value B.theta..sup.n) from a length (L.sub.0) of the respective involute line of the basic involute curve, which value is increased as the involute angle (.theta.) is developed, and an inner wall curve (E.sub.1.sup.-) is generated from the outer wall curve (E.sub.1.sup.+) by first transferring the respective point (p.sub.3, 4) on the outer wall curve (E.sub.1.sup.+) in the normal direction to the outer wall curve (E.sub.1.sup.+) at the respective point (p.sub.3, 4) by a distance (r) equal to a radius of the orbital circle (R) to form an intermediate curve (E.sub.

  • Patent number: 5120205
Abstract: In a scroll type compressor, a movable scroll is engaged with an immovable scroll so that spaces are formed for taking in a fluid to be compressed. The movable scroll is revolved around a central axis of the immovable scroll, so that the spaces are displaced toward the centers of the walls while a volume thereof is reduced to compress the fluid therein. The revolution of the movable scroll is converted from a rotation of a drive shaft through an eccentric mechanism provided therebetween. The shaft is rotatably supported by first and second angular bearings, which are spaced apart from each other along a longitudinal axis of the shaft and are far from and adjacent to the eccentric mechanism, respectively. The first and second bearings are correlatively oriented, and thus an increase of a load to which the second bearing is subjected due to a force exerted upon the shaft in a cantilever manner during a compression operation is suppressed.
