  • Patent number: 5104173
Abstract: A window molding member for automobiles includes upper and side segments to extend along upper and side edges of a window plate, respectively. Each segment comprises a leg section projecting from its main body to be inserted into a gap between the window plate and an automobile body panel. The leg section has a pair of webs defining a groove therebetween, for accommodating the edge of the window plate, and defines a channel along the side edge of the window plate. The molding is manufactured by a method which includes the steps of extruding continuous bodies corresponding to the main body and the leg section of the molding member, removing a predetermined amount of material from at least one of the extruded continuous bodies, and thereafter causing the extruded bodies to adhere with each other.

  • Patent number: 5074610
Abstract: A novel method of producing molding members for automobiles, formed at least partly of a synthetic resin material is disclosed. According to the method of the invention, synthetic resin material is extrusion molded into a continuous body with a substantially constant cross-section throughout the entire length thereof. A controlled amount of the material is removed from a predetermined location of the continuous body, corresponding to a water flow blocking projection, synchronously with the extrusion molding of the material, such that the cross-section of the continuous body varies in the longitudinal direction of the body. The continuous body subjected to the controlled removal of the material is then cut into the predetermined length of the molding member.

  • Patent number: 5070590
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a molding member, for instance for automobile windshields or rear windows, formed at least partly of an extruded body of a synthetic resin material, as well as a method of manufacturing such molding members. The molding member has an integral lip section in the form of a ridge which extends throughout the entire length, as well as a core element embedded in the main body to extend into the lip section. Typically, the lip section bears against the outer surface of the window pane along the upper portion to form a flush outer surface along junctions between the upper edge of the window pane and the body panel, but is spaced therefrom along the side portions to define a weir. The weir is formed by plastically deforming a predetermined portion of the core element.

  • Patent number: 5061335
Abstract: Method of, and apparatus for continuously manufacturing elongate articles with a plurality of segments of basically same and slightly different cross-sections, such as upper and side segments of automobile molding members. The apparatus includes a single die head formed with a common orifice and at least one additional orifice, as well as a device for selecting and controlling operational modes of the apparatus. The device may comprise a guide device which is movable between different positions corresponding to respective operational modes of the apparatus, and which serves to guide synthetic resin material extruded from the additional orifice. The guide member maintains in its one position a spaced relationship of synthetic resin materials extruded from the orifices to form one segment, and causes in another position the synthetic resin materials to adhere with each other to form another segment.

  • Patent number: 5035096
Abstract: A synthetic resin window, e.g. for automotive vehicles, includes a window body portion in the form of a sheet of transparent or semi-transparent synthetic resin, and a frame portion formed of the same resin as the body portion and molded integrally therewith to extend along peripheral edge of the body portion. The outer surfaces of the body portion and the frame portion are covered by a hard coated layer and an opaque coated layer, respectively. The frame portion has a profile greater in thickness than the window body portion, while a hollow inner space is formed in the frame portion to extend continuously in the longitudinal direction of the frame portion.

  • Patent number: 5004511
Abstract: A process is provided for producing non-woven fabrics in which adhered points supporting the non-woven fabrics structure are the same carbon materials with the component fibers and which is superior in strength, dimensional stability, heat-resisting property, chemical resistance, electric conductivity, etc. This process comprises mixing spun pitch fibers or insufficiently infusiblized pitch fibers with infusiblized pitch fibers or carbonized pitch fibers, shaping the mixture into a sheet or the like and thereafter carbonizing the shaped mixture in the atmosphere of an inert gas to mutually fix the component fibers by utilizing the adhering property of the spun pitch fibers or the insufficiently infusiblized pitch fibers during the carbonization.

  • Patent number: 4865676
Abstract: An elongate molding member for automobile body components and the like, as well as a method of producing such molding members are disclosed. The molding member (11) includes a core element (12), and a cover element (13) made of synthetic resin material co-extruded about the core element (11). The core element (11) has a strip-like ornamental portion (15) which is different in color from the synthetic resin material of the cover element (13) and is to be disclosed outside by removing a separable portion (18) defined by at least one longitudinal slit (17) in the cover element (13). The ornamental portion (15) of the core element (12) has a longitudinally variable width (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) to provide an aesthetically refined appearance and to thus satisfy various ornamental design requirements.

  • Patent number: 4676090
Abstract: A press machine is disclosed which is provided with a plurality of press dies fixedly secured on a bolster. The machine has a vertically reciprocable frame member with a predetermined constant stroke, which carries a plurality of pressure plates cooperating with the die, respectively. Each pressure plate is axially movable with respect to the frame member and threadedly connected with a spacer plate arranged between the frame member and the pressure plate. The shut height of the machine can be individually adjusted for each pressure plate, by rotating the spacer plate relative to the pressure plate. The shut height can be optimized very easily and in short a time so that the productivity can considerably be improved.
