  • Publication number: 20180128938
Abstract: A system for predicting production parameters includes a production assembly configured to receive fluid from a region of an earth formation that includes a methane hydrate deposit, and a processor configured to receive data including a temperature and a pressure of the fluid, the processor configured to perform generating a mathematical model based on an energy balance relationship that includes an amount of energy estimated to be used by a dissociation reaction that produces dissociated water and dissociated gas, the energy balance relationship accounting for a first amount of energy taken by the dissociated water and a second amount of energy taken by the dissociated gas, the energy balance relationship based on the temperature of the fluid and the pressure of the fluid. The processor predicts a flow rate of the dissociated gas as a function of a pressure differential in the borehole based on the model.

  • Publication number: 20150027697
Abstract: A completion system includes a first borehole structure having a first section formed proximate to a volume of methane hydrate located at a subsurface location. A second borehole structure has a second section formed proximate to the volume of methane hydrate, the first section positioned deeper than the second section with respect to gravity. A first string is positioned in the first borehole structure and arranged to convey a heat-bearing fluid through the first string into contact with a volume of methane hydrate in order to liberate methane from the methane hydrate. A second string is positioned in the second borehole structure and arranged to produce the methane.

  • Patent number: 7168311
Abstract: An apparatus and method for monitoring and characterizing the fluid flow in and around the tubing string in a wellbore, preferably using fiber optic componentry. The apparatus includes a signal sensing demodulator device and a skin friction sensing device positionable within the wellbore. Both devices are in informational communication with each other. The method includes exposing the skin friction sensing device to a fluid flow, transmitting a signal obtained as a result of a movement of the skin friction sensing device from the fluid flow to a signal sensing demodulator device, converting the signal to a numerical value, and computing a parameter or parameters of the fluid flow in the wellbore from the numerical value.

  • Patent number: 6736213
Abstract: A system and methods for proportionally controlling hydraulically actuated downhole flow control devices using derived feedback control. The system comprises a downhole flow control device with a moveable element in a stationary housing. The moveable element is actuated by a balanced hydraulic piston. Hydraulic lines are fed to either side of the piston to effect actuation in either direction. A processor controlled, surface mounted hydraulic system supplies fluid to the piston. A pressure sensor measures supply pressure to the piston and a cycle counter indicates pump cycles and both sensors generate outputs to the processor. The downhole moveable element is cycled between end stops until successive moveable element breakout pressures are within a predetermined value as measured by the surface pressure sensor. A relationship is then derived between moveable element movement and pumped fluid volume and the relationship is used to move the moveable element to a predetermined position to control flow.
