  • Patent number: 7628762
Abstract: An adapter is provided for use with a biopsy device that includes a cutting element having an outer cannula hub removably mounted to a handpiece. The cutting element includes an outer cannula connected to the outer cannula hub and an inner cannula disposed within the outer cannula and attached to the handpiece. The outer cannula hub allows removal of the handpiece and inner cannula from the outer cannula. The adapter includes a base, a cradle moveably mounted to the base and configured to rotatably support the biopsy device therein, and an indexing guide moveable with the cradle having a receptacle within which the outer cannula hub is rotatably received. The cradle and indexing guide are configured to inhibit rotation and axial movement of the biopsy device relative to the cradle, and facilitates removal of the handpiece and inner cannula from the outer cannula, while maintaining registration with the biopsy site.

  • Publication number: 20090292244
Abstract: A selectively lockable introducer assembly is disclosed that comprises an introducer cannula and a needle guide. The introducer cannula is defined by a proximal end and a distal end and includes a lumen extending therebetween. The needle guide is defined by a body portion that includes at least one channel extending therethrough. The introducer cannula is configured to be selectively receivable within the at least one channel and the introducer cannula may be selectively lockable with respect to the needle guide such that the introducer cannula is selectively prevented from moving laterally with respect to the needle guide.

  • Publication number: 20090275858
Abstract: A medical targeting and device introduction system includes an introducer having a cannula, and a hub. The cannula is defined, at least in part, by an inner lumen. The hub includes a latch to releasably secure the hub to a biopsy device. The hub includes a proximal end and a distal end. The latch extends from the proximal end, and the hemostatic valve is interposed within the introducer.

  • Publication number: 20090204020
Abstract: A tissue sample collection device and method are described and disclosed. The tissue sample collection device has a filter that is removably disposed within a sleeve. The filter has an open proximal end and an internal passageway that is in fluid communication with the open proximal end for the passage of fluids. The filter is substantially impermeable to tissue samples but allows the passage of fluids into the internal passageway at a plurality of spaced apart locations along at least a portion of the filter's length. When used to collect tissue samples, the samples are collected on the exterior surface of the filter. Thus, the filter can be removed from the sleeve, and samples can be removed from the exterior surface of the filter.

  • Patent number: 7556622
Abstract: A tissue filter for medical collection is disclosed. The tissue filter includes a first member, a second member, and filter material secured thereto. The first and second members are selectively engaged with one another to define a filter body having a collection cavity. The collection cavity is open at one end for tissue to flow into the collection cavity. The first member and the second member may be selectively separated to facilitate tissue removal from the collection cavity.

  • Publication number: 20090050516
Abstract: A tissue collection tray is described for use with a biopsy device. The tissue collection tray includes a well portion, a body portion and a divider. The well portion is defined by first and second ends, a bottom and at least two walls. The body portion includes a recess formed therein. The divider includes a groove formed therein. The divider is positioned between the recess and the well portion.

  • Publication number: 20080200833
Abstract: A biopsy device is disclosed that comprises a cutting element mounted to a handpiece and a vacuum chamber. The cutting element comprises a stylet assembly and an outer cannula assembly. The stylet assembly includes a stylet that includes an open proximal end and a tissue opening at a distal end thereof. The tissue receiving opening is in communication with a lumen extending through the stylet. The outer cannula assembly includes an outer cannula that is slidably mounted over the stylet and has an open distal end with a cutting edge formed thereon. The vacuum chamber is in communication with the lumen of the stylet. The stylet is selectively advanced distally outwardly with respect to outer cannula to expose the tissue opening to targeted tissue. The outer cannula is selectively advanced over the tissue opening to sever tissue, while vacuum is generated in the vacuum chamber and delivered to the tissue opening through the lumen.

  • Publication number: 20080005138
Abstract: Method, system, and article of manufacture for assembling a compound document according to a collection of domain-specific rules. For example, a content management system (CMS) may be configured to process the domain-specific compound document according to domain-specific schema and rules (e.g., an XML schema and DTD), while at the same time, maintaining the compound document in a generic form according to a generic schema for a compound document format used by the CMS.
