  • Patent number: 6076449
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor includes a swash plate supported tiltably on a drive shaft and slidable in axial directions of the drive shaft. The swash plate has a central support hole into which the drive shaft is inserted. The swash plate has a top dead center point for positioning the piston at a top dead center position and a bottom dead center point for positioning the piston at a bottom dead center position. The center of gravity of the swash plate is displaced from the axis of the drive shaft toward the top dead center point. This location of the center of gravity maintains the radial position of the swash plate relative to the drive shaft by centrifugal force acting on the swash plate when the swash plate rotates. As a result, the compressor is quieter and more stable.

  • Patent number: 5920985
Abstract: A movable scroll element for a scroll type compressor is produced by a combination of a mold casting process and a machining process. The mold casting process produces a cast product having an end-plate forming portion, a spiral-member-forming portion and a projecting portion for forming a drive power receiving portion. The cast product has an entire outer faces covered with black scale, and the machining process machines the end-plate-forming portion, a spiral member forming portion, the projecting portion by cutting. Nevertheless, at least an outer circumference of the drive power receiving portion, i.e., a boss portion of the movable scroll element is covered with an outermost layer consisting of black scale. Thus, a sufficient mechanical strength of the movable scroll element is obtained even if the wall thickness of the drive power receiving portion, i.e., the boss portion of the movable scroll element, is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5871337
Abstract: A compressor has a swash (slanting-cam) plate located in a crank chamber and mounted on a drive shaft. The cam plate is tiltable between a maximum inclined angle position and a minimum inclined angle position with respect to a plane perpendicular to an axis of a drive shaft according to a difference between the pressures in the crank chamber and a cylinder bore. The cam plate varies the stroke of a piston in the cylinder bore based on an inclination thereof to control the displacement of the compressor. A shutter member is movable between a first position where the shutter member connects a external circuit with a suction chamber and a second position where the shutter member disconnects the external circuit with the suction chamber in response to the inclination of the cam plate. The cam plate moves the shutter member to the second position when the cam plate is at the minimum inclined angle position to minimize the displacement of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 5584677
Abstract: A base plate 41 of a movable scroll member 4 has, at its outer periphery, a section 44 with no scroll wall, while a scroll wall 22 of a stationary scroll member 2 has a section 24 for connecting to an outer cylindrical shell 22. These sections 44 and 24 make a relative lateral slide movement during an orbital movement of the movable scroll member 4 with respect to the stationary scroll member 2. These sections 44 and 24 have axially faced inner and outer edges 44-1 and 24-1, over which the relative lateral movement occurs. These inner and outer edges 44-1 and 24-1 are bevelled, the bevelling being such that any skewed movement of the movable scroll member with respect to the stationary scroll member does not cause locally increased contact pressure, thereby preventing galling as well as seizing.
