  • Publication number: 20100271351
Abstract: A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel and a driver unit driving the plasma display panel. The plasma display panel includes a first plate on which a sustain electrode and a scan electrode, a dielectric layer, an address electrode extending in a direction intersecting with the sustain electrode, and a protective layer are sequentially stacked and a second plate disposed to face the first plate via a discharge space. On the second plate, a barrier rib extending in the direction intersecting with the sustain electrode is formed. One edge part of the address electrode lies on the barrier rib and the other edge part of the address electrode lies on the discharge space. During an address period, the driver unit applies a scan pulse operating as an anode to the scan electrode and applies an address pulse operating as a cathode to the address electrode. This makes it possible to prevent erroneous discharge.

  • Publication number: 20100220115
Abstract: A plasma display device has a plasma display panel (PDP) and a driver unit driving the PDP. One field for displaying one screen of the PDP is made up of a plurality of subfields having a reset period and an address period. At least one of the plurality of subfields is a subfield for low luminance with number of times of sustain discharge being set to 0 (zero) and a voltage between a scan electrode and a sustain electrode during the address period being set smaller than a firing voltage between the scan electrode and the sustain electrode. The driver unit applies between the scan electrodes and the sustain electrodes a voltage smaller than the firing voltage between the scan electrodes and the sustain electrodes in a reset period of a subfield subsequent to the subfield for low luminance. As a result, luminance when reproducing black can be lowered.

Abstract: There is provided a plasma display device capable of high luminous efficacy and stable driving for displaying images at various image display load factors. The plasma display device performs the sustain discharge for a light-emission display, and is configured to apply a sustain pulse voltage between a sustain electrode pair in a respective one of the plural discharge cells to generate a sustain discharge in a respective one of the following operating modes selected based upon use of the plasma display device: (a) generating a pre-discharge and then a main discharge; (b) generating a main discharge without a pre-discharge preceding the main discharge; and (c) switching between the mode (a) and the mode (b). The sustain voltage waveforms are used which compensate for an increase in voltage drop due to an increase in discharge current when the image display load factor is excessively increased.
