  • Publication number: 20090066609
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display in which supply of a driving waveform to the non-lighting display line of a plasma display screen is stopped while preventing level difference in luminance or instability of operational margin incident to stoppage of driving waveform supply. In the inventive plasma display, a sustain waveform is created and supplied to each display line of the plasma display, and supply of the sustain waveform is stopped for such a display line as no cell is lighted at all in a unit of sub-field thus quickening the clamp period of sustain waveform by using an inductance having an increased L value and shortening the sustain cycle.

  • Publication number: 20080238908
Abstract: In this PDP apparatus, in a sustain driving circuit device for supplying sustain discharge pulses, an energy recovery circuit has a coil, switches, and diodes, and a Vs clamp circuit has switches. In the energy recovery circuit, the switches are connected to a panel capacitor, and the coil is connected to a power source line with an intermediate potential of Vs, and a clamp diode and a power source connected thereto are connected to a node between the coil and the switch. As a control timing, at a timing of less than ?/2 of an LC resonance current cycle, the switch of the energy recovery circuit is turned OFF and then the switch of the Vs clamp circuit is turned ON, thereby performing the Vs clamp.

  • Publication number: 20080198100
Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided in which wasteful power consumption is reduced and light emission efficiency is improved when the number of cells to be lighted is relatively small. The method includes classifying a display ratio into plural group ranges, selecting a suitable display pulse waveform for each group range, detecting the display ratio of an object to be displayed in a real display, and plural types of display pulses having different waveforms are used differently in accordance with the result of the detection. The display ratio means a ratio of the number of cells to be lighted to the number of cells of the screen.

  • Patent number: 7307603
Abstract: A first and a second signal line respectively supplying a first potential and a second potential to one end of a capacitive load, a waveform output circuit whose input terminal is connected to a supply line supplying a third potential, whose output terminal is connected to the first or the second signal line, and whose control terminal is connected to a waveform generating circuit, and a reactive current preventing switch connected between the control terminal and the output terminal or the input terminal of the waveform output circuit are provided. During a period when a reactive current is prevented from flowing, the reactive current preventing switch is bought into conduction to make a potential difference between the control terminal and the output terminal of the waveform output circuit smaller so that the waveform output circuit cannot be operated, which prevents the reactive current from flowing, leading to an improvement in the reliability of a driving circuit.

  • Patent number: 7242373
Abstract: A ramp waveform generation circuit for generating a ramp waveform to be applied to a capacitive load serving as a display element is connected between the ground and a signal line for supplying a high-level voltage generated by a power supply circuit for generating a voltage to be applied to the capacitive load, thereby operating the ramp waveform generation circuit with reference to the ground potential. Hence, without using a plurality of power supply circuits or a signal transmission circuit for converting the reference potential of a control signal for the ramp waveform generation circuit, a stable ramp waveform can be output with a simple circuit arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20050184977
Abstract: A capacitive load drive circuit that has reduced power consumption due to residual carriers, and a PDP apparatus using the same, have been disclosed. In the drive circuit, the power consumption due to the residual carriers, which are formed when a diode provided in parallel to a switch circuit of the capacitive load drive circuit is brought into conduction, is reduced and the switch circuit connected in parallel to the diode is brought into conduction during a period of time from when the diode is brought into conduction until when the potential of a terminal to which the diode is connected changes. By bringing the switch circuit connected in parallel into conduction, a closed circuit is formed by the diode and the switch circuit and the residual carriers formed in the diode are reduced. The voltage of the closed circuit is substantially zero V and, therefore, power consumption is very small even if a current due to the residual carriers flows through the closed circuit.
