  • Publication number: 20160338077
Abstract: For a user equipment in a transmitter sharing dual subscriber identity module (SIM) dual active subscriptions (DSDA) mode, a first subscription of a first radio access technology (RAT) in a packet switched data call in general has a lower priority than a second subscription in an active voice call in a second RAT. As a result of this default high priority assigned to the active voice call, the first subscription may experience long delay, low throughput or in some cases radio link failure due to long starvations. A method for wireless communication includes detecting whether an uplink transmission within a frame of the second RAT overlaps at least one time slot of the first RAT. The method also includes prioritizing data of the first RAT by blanking the frame of the second RAT when a number of overlapping slots is above a threshold.

  • Patent number: 9474002
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) enables reselection by supplementing dedicated priority information received from a network with proprietary priority-based reselection parameters stored in a UE memory. The reselection is performed when a currently camped-on cell does not broadcast priority-based reselection parameters. The proprietary priority-based reselection parameters include threshold parameters such as high priority thresholds, low priority thresholds, signal strength thresholds and related reselection timers.

  • Patent number: 9462553
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) prioritizes searches and/or measurements of neighbor cells/frequencies based on a level of mobility of a UE. In one instance, the UE identifies a priority of a layer of a radio access technology (RAT) to be measured or searched and identifies a level of mobility of the UE. A sensor module of the UE may determine the level of mobility of the UE and generate an indication corresponding to the level of mobility of the UE. The UE prioritizes a periodicity of interlayer search and/or measurement based on the priority of the layer to be measured and the level of the mobility of the UE.

  • Publication number: 20160183192
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) controls power consumption of the UE based on mobility information and channel conditions experienced by the UE. In one instance, the UE determines its level of mobility based on a Doppler frequency spread of received communications. The UE disables a motion sensor when the level of mobility is above a first threshold. The UE then controls the communications based on the motion sensor and channel conditions experienced by the UE when the level of mobility is below the first threshold.

  • Publication number: 20160135114
Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to throttling packet-switched (PS) call establishment in wireless communications. A circuit-switched (CS) call can be conducted by using a first radio access technology (RAT). A cell update (CU) procedure for a PS call using a second RAT can be detected as due to one or more conditions. A cause for the one or more conditions can be determined based on one or more parameters related to a transmitter or receiver.

  • Publication number: 20160134317
Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing dynamic receive mode management to improve data throughput and paging performance on a multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) wireless communication device may include detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a first SIM, an active communication in a first network, detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a second SIM, an idle mode paging cycle in a second network, prompting entry into a selected dual receive mode on the shared RF resource, and monitoring at least one performance metric for the idle mode paging cycle associated with the second SIM while in the dual receive mode. Based on the monitored performance metric while in the dual receive mode, the wireless communication device may determine whether paging performance is degraded for the second SIM, and if so, trigger entry into a fallback mode on the shared RF resource.

  • Patent number: 9288748
Abstract: In a mobile device for wireless communication capable of communicating on multiple radio access technologies (RATs), cell selection may be improved by reusing cell measurements for inter-RAT cell selection. This will reduce the number of cell measurements taken and improve mobile device performance. A time threshold may be used to instigate new cell measurement to prevent cell measurement data from being outdated.

  • Patent number: 9277430
Abstract: Aspects of the methods and apparatus include determining that a time-to-trigger (TTT) timer has expired, and determining that a serving radio access technology (RAT) received signal characteristic is less than a signal characteristic threshold when the TTT timer has expired. Further, the aspects include determining, in response to the serving RAT received signal characteristic being less than the signal characteristic threshold, that a target RAT frequency measurement associated with a Measurement Report Message (MRM) for performing an inter-RAT (IRAT) handover cannot be completed within a time limit according to a current measurement gap configuration. Also, the aspects include calculating a measurement gap duration sufficient to complete the target RAT frequency measurement associated with the MRM for performing the IRAT handover, and configuring a new measurement gap prior to the time limit, wherein the new measurement gap comprises the calculated measurement gap duration.

  • Publication number: 20150264613
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) reselects back to a higher priority radio access technology (RAT) when network configured parameters do not provide sufficient time to perform the IRAT reselection measurements and evaluation due to the UE spending a very short duration in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode. In one instance, the UE detects a triggering condition for incomplete cell reselection evaluation based on a number of past events. The UE computes a modified reselection timer value based on the past events and applies the modified reselection timer value to future events.

  • Publication number: 20150201338
Abstract: A base station may allocate served user equipments (UEs) into measurement gap groups, which are configured to reduce the overlap between UE measurement gaps used for inter-RAT measurement. The base station may configure the measurement gap groups based on an offset between subframes of a served and measured RAT and may distribute UEs in the measurement gap groups to avoid overlapping inter-RAT measurement times, thereby reducing idle base station resources.
