  • Patent number: 7474117
Abstract: A method of transmitting a signal on a bi-directional universal serial bus (“USB”) circuit for boosting a signal on a USB bus disclosed. The circuit includes a first stage inverting buffer coupled to a second stage inverting buffer to form a non-inverting buffer circuit. A high pass filter is coupled in series with the non-inverting buffer circuit to provide AC coupling to the USB bus and to allow fast signal edges through the circuit. The booster circuit is arranged to improve signal quality over a USB bus to allow additional USB devices and longer USB busses to be utilized.

  • Patent number: 7475086
Abstract: A computer Implemented method of automatically removing space characters from data being entered into a database system are provided. When a user creates a table in a database system into which data having leading and/or trailing character spaces may be entered, the user may specifically instruct the database system to remove any character spaces before entering the data into the table. Consequently, when a piece of data is being entered into the table, the database system will determine whether the piece of data includes leading and/or trailing character spaces. If so, the database system will automatically remove the character spaces from the piece of data before it is entered into the table. Hence, the use of TRIM functions when retrieving data from the database system will be obviated.

  • Publication number: 20090007048
Abstract: A design structure embodied in a machine readable storage medium for designing, manufacturing, and/or testing a memory module system and DIMM connector is provided. A DIMM connector includes a plurality of DIMM sockets for receiving a corresponding plurality of DIMMs in a radially oriented, angularly spaced orientation. The DIMM sockets are connected in parallel at a memory module junction so that socket terminals of each DIMM socket are joined to the same relative terminal of all the other DIMM sockets along electronic pathways of substantially equal length. A memory controller selectively communicates with the DIMMs via the DIMM junction. By virtue of the improved topology, impedance within the DIMM connector may be better matched to minimize reflections and improve signal quality.

  • Publication number: 20090002111
Abstract: A method of arranging and fabricating parallel primary and secondary coils of a wideband planar transformer is provided. The spacing and width of the coils are disposed to extend the bandwidth from DC to GHz and allow for high frequency coupling when the core permeability dramatically drops and achieves low reflected energy and low loss over a wide bandwidth. A bottom mold having a pattern of hole-pairs with conductive elements inserted vertically couples to a top mold such that a middle portion of the conductive elements spans between the top and bottom molds. Dielectric material envelopes the middle portion and a displacement feature of the mold creates a vacancy. A ferrite element is deposited to the vacancy. A second top mold spans the bottom mold and dielectric material is deposited to create a molded assembly. A deposited patterned conductive coating connects the element ends to define the transformer coils.

  • Publication number: 20090003601
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for authenticating a physical medium (1405). The method starts by retrieving (1406) a reference digital signature (1412) previously determined (1403) based upon visual characteristics of an area (1402) of a reference physical medium (1400). A candidate digital signature (1415) is determined based upon visual characteristics of an area (1408) of the physical medium (1405), the area (1408) of the physical medium (1405) being at least partly corresponding to the area (1402) of the reference physical medium (1400). Weight values associated with different parts of at least one of the areas (1402 and 1408) are determined (201). Finally, the candidate digital signature (1415) is compared (1420) with the reference digital signature (1412), wherein the contributing of the parts in the comparison (1420) is based upon the weight values.

  • Patent number: 7469305
Abstract: In response to multiple data transfer requests from an application, a data definition (DD) chain is generated. The DD chain is divided into multiple DD sub-blocks by determining a bandwidth of channels (BOC) and whether the BOC is less than the DD chain. If so, the DD chain is divided by the available DMA engines. If not, the DD chain is divided by an optimum atomic transfer unit (OATU). If the division yields a remainder, the remainder is added to a last DD sub-block. If the remainder is less than a predetermined value, the size of the last DD sub-block is set to the OATU plus the remainder. Otherwise, the size of the last DD sub-block is set to the remainder. The DD sub-blocks are subsequently loaded into a set of available DMA engines. Each of the available DMA engines performs data transfers on a corresponding DD sub-block until the entire DD chain has been completed.

  • Publication number: 20080310242
Abstract: Memory die are provided with programmable chip enable circuitry to allow particular memory die to be disabled after packaging and/or programmable chip address circuitry to allow particular memory die to be readdressed after being packaged. In a multi-chip memory package, a memory die that fails package-level testing can be disabled and isolated from the memory package by a programmable circuit that overrides the master chip enable signal received from the controller or host device. To provide a continuous address range, one or more of the non-defective memory die can be re-addressed using another programmable circuit that replaces the unique chip address provided by the pad bonding. Memory chips can also be also be readdressed after packaging independently of detecting a failed memory die.
