  • Patent number: 8857110
Abstract: A negative stiffness device and method for seismic protection of a structure is described. In one embodiment, the device has an anchor frame and a movement frame laterally translatable relative to the anchor frame. The anchor frame and movement frame have respective extension portions. A linkage is pivotably connected to the extension portion of the anchor frame. A compressed spring has a first end is attached to the extension portion of the movement frame and a second end attached to the linkage. The compressed spring has a spring force. In a rest state, the compressed spring does not apply a lateral force to the movement frame. In an engaged state, the compressed spring is configured to apply a lateral force to displace the movement frame in a lateral direction of a seismic load. The spring force is amplified by the linkage when the movement frame is laterally displaced to an amplification point.

  • Publication number: 20130182584
Abstract: Wireless communications devices with existing peer to peer links transmit, e.g., in accordance with a recurring schedule, quality of service related information corresponding to the existing links. The transmitted quality of service related information is, e.g., information indicating an obtained quality of service for the existing link. In some embodiments, quality of service related information is communicated in one of: a peer discovery signal, a connection ID broadcast signal and a contention resolution signal. A wireless communications device seeking to establish a new peer to peer link receives quality of service related information corresponding to existing links and estimates a quality a service achievable on the new desired potential link based on the received quality of service related information. The wireless communications device decides whether or not to establish the new peer to peer link based on its quality of service estimate.

  • Publication number: 20130114424
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and an apparatus for a transmit priority distributed backoff are provided. The apparatus forms a peer-to-peer communication link with a second apparatus. In addition, the apparatus determines whether to transmit in an assigned resource for securing a transmit priority for transfer of data to the second apparatus based on a quality of service estimation. Furthermore, the apparatus transmits to the second apparatus based on the determination. A method, computer program product, and an apparatus for a transmit priority token passing are provided. The apparatus forms a peer-to-peer communication link with a second apparatus. In addition, the apparatus determines a transmit priority within the link based on a quality of service estimation. The transmit priority is a priority of transmission between the apparatus and the second apparatus in the link.

  • Patent number: 8434374
Abstract: The present invention relates to a Sub-threshold Field Effect Transistor (SF-FET). The invention integrates a MEMS mechanical transducer along with the sensing mechanism in a single device. Forced mass is capacitively coupled onto the FET structure. Dielectric SiO2 forms good interface with underlying silicon substrate. Air dielectric forms second dielectric wherein effective gate capacitance is the series combination of the second dielectric capacitance and fixed dielectric. Inertial displacements are sensed by observing change in drain current (ID) of the sensor due to change in gap height (TGap) of the second dielectric of the sensor caused by forced mass.

  • Patent number: 7610267
Abstract: Automated crawling of page links associated with a site domain that was previously crawled involves computing the dynamicity of a site based on totals of continuous dead links, live links and/or prerequisite pages encountered while crawling page links corresponding to the site. The degree to which links are crawled is optimized based on the dynamicity of the site. Some pages require that another particular page (i.e., a prerequisite page) is retrieved from the host prior to retrieving a given page, e.g., so that the prerequisite page can set a cookie. Prerequisite pages are determined based on stored information about pages that were retrieved, during a previous crawl, prior to retrieving a page. Prerequisite pages are identified to a search system so that when a user clicks on the URL for the page, the request is redirected to the prerequisite page to set the cookie appropriately.
