  • Publication number: 20060261886
Abstract: An amplifier system can include a biasing amplifier that provides a first amplified signal to a DC blocking element that is connected with a load based on a first control signal. A power amplifier provides a second amplified signal for driving the load based on a second control signal. A control system controls the biasing amplifier to charge the DC blocking element so as to mitigate a voltage drop across the load (e.g., to substantially eliminate audible artifacts) when the power amplifier is activated to provide the second amplified signal.

  • Publication number: 20060250296
Abstract: In a device for measuring angular positions by using radar pulses and mutually overlapping beam characteristics of at least two antenna elements, a switchable phase shifter is provided in the signal path of at least one antenna element which is switchable in the time-division multiplexing between different phase states. For the radar received signals, an evaluation device is provided for the joint and especially simultaneous evaluation of signals of two antenna elements with the participation of antenna element, in whose signal path a switchable phase shifter is provided.

  • Publication number: 20060247811
Abstract: A digital audio-visual receiver (10) with improved digital control of audio volume is disclosed. Upon receipt of a user volume command, via a front panel (25) or a remote control and infrared receiver (27), sequential logic (36) in a volume command processor (35) in a PWM audio processor (20) of the receiver (10) initiates a timer (38), which measures or counts a selected interval. If additional volume commands are received during the interval, sequential logic (36) resets and restarts the timer (38). Upon the timer (38) interval elapsing without another volume command, the volume command processor (35) generates a ramping volume output signal to reach the volume level of the last received volume command over a selected time duration. Audible artifacts during changes in audio volume are thus avoided.

  • Publication number: 20060103458
Abstract: A multiple-channel audio processor (10) and an associated plurality of power stages (22) in an audio system are disclosed. The audio processor (10) includes a plurality of audio amplifier channels (22), each of which includes a pulse-code-modulation (PCM) to pulse-width-modulation (PWM) conversion function (25), which generates PWM signals for application to the plurality of power stages (22). The audio amplifier channels (20) each also include an interchannel delay function (28) for delaying the PWM edges relative to other channels (20), for reducing noise. The audio amplifier channels (20) each also include delay adjust circuitry (32) for gradually increasing and decreasing the interchannel delay of the channel (20) on startup and shutdown. This permits a single control terminal (VALID) at the processor to globally enable and disable all of the power stages (22).

  • Patent number: 4750905
Abstract: An improved prosthesis construction in a femoral-side hip joint replacement device of the type having an elongate curved stem held within an intramedullary cavity in a femur, and a neck supporting a ball-like joint member at the femur's proximal end. The construction includes an elongate polymer core containing continuous-filament fibers oriented substantially along the length of the core. The core contains the neck, an elongate distal stem whose cross-sectional area is less than about one-quarter that of the neck, and a tapered sections which mates the neck to the stem. A polymer skin fused to and covering the stem and tapered section of the core is shaped and dimensioned to conform to and fill the bone cavity. A braided sheath encases the stem and tapered sections of the core and it embedded in the polymer skin adjacent the core.

  • Patent number: 4726879
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for etching semiconductor materials with a high etch rate against an insulator mask using a novel etchant gas mixture. The mixture consists of a chlorocarbon (e.g., CCl.sub.2 F.sub.2, CCl.sub.4 or CCl.sub.3 F), SF.sub.6, O.sub.2 and an inert gas (e.g. He). The preferred gas mixture contains 2/1 ratio of the chlorocarbon to SF6 and the following composition: 1-4% of SF.sub.6, 3-10% of O.sub.2, 74-93% of He and 3-10% of chlorocarbon. The etch rate of silicon (or silicide) against an oxide mask using this etchant gas mixture under normal etching conditions is high, on the order of 30-40. An impressive feature of the process is shape control of trenches by mere manipulation of the RIE system power.

  • Patent number: 4589193
Abstract: Disclosed is the use of metal silicide (e.g. Pt-Si) contacts in boron lightly doped P.sup.- type silicon between two contiguous but not adjacent N.sup.+ type regions instead of employing the usual P.sup.+ implanted or diffused channel stoppers. The invention finds a particularly interesting application in polyimide filled deep trench isolated integrated circuits. The trench sidewalls are coated with an insulating material which is removed from the trench bottom at the all contact etch step. The Pt-Si is formed at the bottom of the trenches at the same time that the device contacts are made.

  • Patent number: 4549927
Abstract: Deep trenches (14,15) are formed according to the desired pattern through the N epitaxial layer (13) and N.sup.+ subcollector region (12) into the P.sup.- substrate (11) of a silicon structure (10). Where a substrate contact is needed, the trenches delineate a central stud (16) or mesa of silicon material. Channel stop regions (18) are formed e.g. by ion implantation of boron atoms at the bottom of trenches, SiO.sub.2 and Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 layers (17,19) are then deposited on the whole structure. A substrate contact mask is applied and patterned to selectively expose one side of the trench sidewalls, the bottom of the trenches adjacent thereto and others areas if desired such as the top surface of the stud. The composite SiO.sub.2 /Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 layer is then etched to leave exposed only the sidewalls of the stud, at least partially the bottom of the trenches adjacent thereto and the top surface of the stud.
