Patent number: 7421933Abstract: An improved telescoping stun gun comprising a self-contained power source electrically connected to a voltage step-up circuit that has an output of stepped-up voltage. A first tube section is connected to a handle. One or more additional tube sections are disposed more or less concentrically within the first tube section, the smallest being the innermost tube section. The tube sections are preferably multiple sections of interlocking, concentric, thin-walled, rigid, tapered tubes. The smallest tube section includes one or more probes that are electrically connected to the output of the step-up circuit. The tube sections are configured so that if a centrifugal force, such as the flick of the wrist is applied, the inner tube sections automatically extend and lock into place forming a shaft that extends away from the handle. A probe or probes at the end of the smallest tube section are located at the distal end of the entire shaft and can be used to shock or warn a potential attacker.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2003Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Inventor: Frederick Thomas Pearson

Patent number: 6997692Abstract: The method and apparatus for forming composite wood products particularly composite veneer like products which may be intermediate products and laminated to form the final composite product. Strands are fed from a source of supply at a metered rate, entrained in an air stream and carried along a confined path between an entrainment zone and the source of supply. Strands are condensed onto a surface to form a veneer lay-up of at least one layer of strands on the forming surface and this veneer lay-up is carried from the path and deposited onto a collecting surface and later consolidated into a composite product. Entraining air and strands not forming veneer are separated in the supply station, the strands fall onto the supply of strands and energy is added to the separated entraining air and it is returned to the entraining zone.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2003Date of Patent: February 14, 2006Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventor: Martin Thomas Pearson

Publication number: 20050202011Abstract: The present invention provides a method for inhibiting an immune reponse and a method for inhibiting rejection of transplanted tissues. This method comprises preventing an endogenous molecule on a cell selected from the group consisting of gp39 and CD40 antigens from binding its endogenous ligand and preventing an endogenous molecule on a cell selected from the group consisting of CTLA4, CD28, and B7 antigens from binding its endogenous ligand. The prevention of such molecules from binding their ligand thereby blocks two independent signal pathways and inhibits the immune response resulting in transplanted tissue rejection.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2005Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventors: Christian Larsen, Alejandro Aruffo, Diane Hollenbaugh, Peter Linsley, Jeffrey Ledbetter, Thomas Pearson
