  • Patent number: 10232275
Abstract: A yo-yo having improved spin time is disclosed. The yo-yo has a body comprising two side members joined together at their centers by a fixed axle. A yoke for receiving a string in winding relation is magnetically supported for substantially frictionless rotation about the axle. A pair of radially-magnetized ring magnets disposed at opposite ends of the yoke are received within a corresponding pair of radially-magnetized ring magnets disposed within recesses in the side members. A pair of axially-magnetized ring magnets disposed at opposite ends of the yoke confront a corresponding pair of axially-disposed ring magnets set into the body side members. The magnets are magnetically polarized such that they mutually repel each other. As a result, the yo-yo is free to spin around the yoke for an extended period of time.

  • Patent number: 10217208
Abstract: An apparatus for inspecting a turbomachine includes a plurality of boroscopes, a device to rotate the rotor of the turbomachine and a processor having reference measurements of the rotor blades and/or reference measurements between the rotor blades and the boroscopes. A boroscope is inserted in a casing aperture upstream of the blades to view the leading edge and a portion of one of the surfaces of each blade as the rotor is rotated. A boroscope is inserted in a casing aperture downstream of the blades to view the trailing edge and a portion of one of the surfaces of each blade as the rotor is rotated. The boroscopes supply the images of each of the blades to the processor. The processor analyses the images of the blades and uses the reference measurements to determine the position and size of any defect on any of the rotor blades.

  • Patent number: 10205622
Abstract: A waveform synthesis technique for radio frequency identification (RFID) transmitters and an RFID system making us of the technique are disclosed. The RFID transmitter in example embodiments synthesizes a continuous transmitter waveform from a symbol alphabet without Nyquist or interpolation filters. High spectral occupancy waveforms are achieved which include the ability to do both linear and nonlinear predistortion with no increase in computational load once the signal set has been adapted to compensate for linear and nonlinear distortion in the transmitter analog circuitry. A polarity generator can be used to impart the required polarity to each waveform. The RFID transmitter can be employed in RFID readers to reduce the computational requirements of the digital signal processor (DSP).

  • Patent number: 10044646
Abstract: A network switch allocates large-scale memory units as data packets are received in order to implement per-queue, circular egress buffers. Each large-scale memory unit is larger than the maximum packet length of the received packets and is capable of storing a plurality of data packets, thereby reducing the number of memory allocation events that are required to process a given number of data packets. Efficient techniques for writing to and reading from the large-scale egress memory units have been developed and may be used to reduce processing delays. Such techniques are compatible with relatively inexpensive memory devices, such as dynamic random access memory (DRAM), that may be separate from the circuitry used to process the data packets. The described architectures are easily scalable so that that a large number of ports (e.g., thousands) may be implemented at a relatively low cost and complexity without introducing significant processing delays.

  • Publication number: 20180180487
Abstract: Techniques for controlling an optical system include accessing a measured value of a property of a particular pulse of a pulsed light beam emitted from the optical system, the property being related to an amount of coherence of the light beam; comparing the measured value of the property of the light beam to a target value of the property; determining whether to generate a control signal based on the comparison; and if a control signal is generated based on the comparison, adjusting the amount of coherence in the light beam by modifying an aspect of the optical system based on the control signal to reduce an amount of coherence of a pulse that is subsequent to the particular pulse.
