Abstract: A method and graphical user interface for selecting pad printing functions for an image output device. The user interface is provided to a user and displays a pad printing dialog box that enables selection of pad printing output. Selectable pad printing options are displayed, which include the number of sheets per pad and the total number of pads to be output. When the user selection of pad printing and pad printing options are received, the total quantity of sheets to be output based on selected pad printing options and organizing the sheets for pad printing output from the image output device are automatically determined. Availability of pad printing is determined based on finishing options selected.

Abstract: Methods and systems of selecting a color for a print operation are disclosed. A color including a color formula with multiple color components may be selected based on a reference color. A print sample may be printed on a printing device based on the selected color. The print sample may include the selected color and one or more rings of color variants. Each ring may include a plurality of color variants differing from a color component of the selected color by a corresponding amount. Each color variant may be aligned axially based on the color component that differs from the selected color and a magnitude of a difference between the color component of the color variant and the selected color. The print sample may be compared to the reference color. A document may be printed on the printing device using at least the color formula for the selected color.

Abstract: A method for utilizing a graphical user interface for concurrent programming of multiple feature operations to a single production job in a controller for a production system includes presenting options on the user interface for the selection of job properties or queue properties, with queue properties defined as default values for the virtual device to which the job will be submitted and job properties defined as job feature selection options. The job feature selection options may be hidden or displayed to enable the selection of valid job feature combinations only. Toggle controls are utilized for job feature options whose operation is limited by previously selected job feature options. The application of any valid combination of selected job feature options on the completed production job is illustrated on a dynamic graphic.

Abstract: A N-up calculator graphical user interface (GUI) is provided for performing N-Up printing. The graphical user interface includes configurable objects for specifying: 1) the size of the page, 2) the dimensions of the image, and 3) the number of images to be printed on each page (N-up). The controls on the GUI can include page size, reduction/enlargement percentage, final image size?height/width, Number up, and other related controls. The manipulation of any one of the controls may affect the others according to a set of rules. These rules determine which objects are held constant and for which values are automatically calculated, and the object automatically configured. The rule-set can be manipulated by selecting from a list of modes or options such as “Conserve Paper,” “Fit as Many Images as Possible” or “Maximize Image size” or by locking certain controls and freeing others.

Abstract: A printing method, including offering a choice to create special pages in a print job; simultaneously displaying a plurality of selectable features, each feature corresponding to a category of special pages; receiving a selection of a first selectable feature; displaying a child window including selectable options of the first selectable feature; receiving a selection of at least one option corresponding to a first range of pages; and displaying a summary view window, wherein the summary window includes the first range of pages and the at least one selected option that the user has selected for the first range of pages.

Abstract: A system and method for converting a page from a network into an image file suitable for assembly of or insertion into a document generated by a document creation algorithm. The system of the invention includes a browser for retrieving a page from the network. The page can be encoded as a page description language (PDL) file representative of the page. A production agent can be provided for translating the PDL file into an image file representative of the page. The image file is of a form and type suitable for assembly or incorporation into the document.

Abstract: A printer system can be used for displaying and printing a print job, the print job including at least print job level properties and print job exception attributes. The printer system can include a display device that displays the print job, a memory that stores the print job and a controller that controls the print job displayed on the display device to display only the print job exception attributes of the print job that are different from the print job level properties. Moreover, a graphic user interface can be used for displaying a print job and can be used with a printer system. The graphic user interface can include a first window that displays the print job level properties of the print job and a second window that displays only the print job exception attributes of the print job that are different from the print job level properties.

Abstract: A method for interactively acquiring a page in a network by providing a user interface element, such as a window, for collecting the page in the network, interactively acquiring the page from the network, and inserting the page in the window. A content acquisition facility resident on a client machine can be employed to generate the window. Further, a URL list can be interactively created by launching a browser, generating another user interface element with a URL collection facility, acquiring the URL corresponding to a selected page in the network during browsing, and inserting the URL in the user interface element to create the URL list. Subsequently, the URL list can be imported into a document. The content associated with the URL can then be dynamically, automatically retrieved and placed in the document.

Abstract: An automatic tab displaying and maximum tab storing UI assembly for use on a digital imaging machine includes a display device having (i) a selectable screens each having a different user interactive information sets and a screen selection tab having a visible outline, a first surface size, and tab identification markings; (ii) a first display area for displaying at least one screen of the selectable screens; and (iii) at least a second display area for containing all the selection tabs of the selectable screens.

Abstract: The user interface is provided to aid a user in preparation of a document having precut tabbed pages. The user interface allows tab content, including monochrome or color text and graphics, to be automatically positioned on the tabs of the precut tabbed pages. The user may enter all the tab content information at one time or, alternatively, may enter tab information during processing of the document. The user interface further provides the ability to view a graphical representation of the arranged precut tabbed pages with the appropriate tab content.

Abstract: A graphical user interface widget includes a vertically-oriented slider portion. The slider portion includes a slider pointer that indicates a current value of the slider and a slider bar that indicates the default value of the slider. The bottom and top edges of the slider portion are labeled with the extreme values of the range for the variable associated with the slider portion. The slider pointer divides the slider portion into two subportions. An appearance of a bottom subportion of the slider portion is altered to reflect the value currently indicated by the slider pointer relative to the extreme values of the range represented by the slider. A numerical portion can be provided along with the slider portion. The numeral portion includes a value display portion and a pair of buttons that are used to increase or decrease the numerical value in the value display portion.

Abstract: A system that provides secure transmission of data between a subscriber's PC and an online service provider (OLS) over an Ethernet WAN. The system includes a remote transceiver unit located at a subscriber site and connected to the subscriber's PC; a central transceiver unit located at a telephone central office and connected to the remote transceiver unit over a twisted pair network and also connected to a WAN; an authorization server that is connected to the WAN; and one or more OLSs, which may include Internet service providers, connected to the WAN. Security of transmission is provided through a method in which only subscriber transmissions directed to a session-specific OLS are allowed to pass through the central transceiver unit onto the WAN, and only unicast transmissions from authorized OLSs are allowed to pass through the central transceiver unit to the subscriber port of the remote transceiver unit. Broadcast transmissions are minimized in favor of unicast messages.

Abstract: Two major Forth extensions provide high-level support for building rapid prototypes for systems. These extensions form distinct language vocabularies available in the Forth environment. One is a Finite State Machine Language, named FSML, and the other is an object oriented language, named 200L. Using these extension and the inherent expandability of the Forth language, a prototype can be rapidly created. The modeling method requires four steps. First, using 200L, the system is described as a set of objects. At least one of the objects must be a controlling object and so identified. Second, using FSML, the controlling object is described as a finite state machine. Third, the system's operation is expressed as a collection of one or more finite state machines. Each finite state machine type is defined with a unique machine type name. Any number of instances of a finite state machine type can be dynamically created at execution time. Fourth, communication is allowed between the finite state machines.

Abstract: A shipping container especially adapted for air freight movement of perishable goods in which separable base, wall members, and cover portions are assembled and disassembled on site. The base is formed of a rigid preferably plastic material and is of a general planar configuration with a peripheral groove for receipt of wall members in turn preferably formed from corrugated cardboard and the like and which define lower peripheral edges such that the separate wall members may be forced into the grooves to construct a compartment for the receipt of the material being shipped. Upon reaching the destination, the assembly may be easily dismantled and the corrugated cardboard wall members either discarded or returned back to the point of origin along with a plurality of stacked rigid bases.
