  • Patent number: 7010423
Abstract: A method and a control unit for operating an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle are provided, in particular for controlling/regulating the internal combustion engine as a function of an air-mass sensor signal from a first air-mass sensor. A first auxiliary signal, which is obtained arithmetically from an additional sensory system or from models of the internal combustion engine, allows a plausibility control or the substitution of the air-mass sensor signal in the case of signal interference of the air-mass sensor signal, and thereby ensures that the internal combustion engine is able to continue working in the optimal operating point.

  • Patent number: 6964710
Abstract: A method for cleaning of a measuring element (1) passed over by a gas flow is arranged on a thin-walled membranous material (5). The measuring element (1) includes at least one heatable element (6, 7, 8; 10, 11), which is arranged on the membranous material, the membranous material being capable of vibrating. By means of a control apparatus (20) or a switching (22) associated with the measuring element, a periodic delivery of current (41, 42) in intervals takes place in this manner to at least one heatable element (6, 7, 8; 10, 11) of the measuring element (1) and thereby produces vibrations. Alternatively, vibrations of the membranous material (5) can be produced by special vibration exciters or by means of ultrasonic coupling.

  • Patent number: 6915682
Abstract: A device for determining a parameter of a medium flowing in a line, according to the related art, does not offer sufficient protection for a measuring element from liquid or solid particles which may dirty or damage the measuring element in an unwanted way. A device has an input region, whence, on the one hand, the flowing medium flows into the measuring channel, and on the other hand, through at least one separation opening, liquid and solid particles flow, and thus flow so as to bypass the measuring channel.

  • Patent number: 6871533
Abstract: Devices for determining at least one parameter of a flowing medium having an inner pipe according to the related art have the disadvantage that whirls are formed, which causes increased signal noise at the measuring element and pressure drop. A device (1) is described which has an element (11) that reduces the whirl formation in the flowing medium.

  • Patent number: 6840101
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for determining at least one parameter of a medium flowing in a line, in particular the intake air mass of an internal combustion engine. The solid particles contained in the line act on a measuring element and influence a characteristic curve behavior of the measuring element, which is used to determine parameters of the flowing medium. In order to reduce the action of solid particles on the measuring element, the measuring element is disposed in a line or a tubular body downstream of a protective screen, and an element for influencing movement paths of the solid particles is disposed in the line, on an inner wall. By intentionally influencing the movement paths of the solid particles, their action on the measuring element is considerably reduced.

  • Publication number: 20040244461
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for compensating for the measurement deviation of an air flow rate sensor, which is disposed in a flow conduit, on the basis of soiling or aging. To compensate for the measurement error, it is proposed that the sensor be acted upon by an air surge and that the response time of the sensor be evaluated. The sensor error caused by the deposit of soil or by aging is finally corrected as a function of the response time.
