  • Patent number: 5508052
Abstract: A method of peeling and segmenting a fruit which has an interior portion and a peel about the interior portion comprises forcing the fruit through a cutting assembly. While passing through the cutting assembly, the fruit is separated into at least two portions, each completely severed from the other. Additionally, each separated portion is also partially severed through the interior portion. The separated portions of the fruit are placed in contact with a scooping device which is then rotated so that the interior portion of the fruit is scooped out and separated from the peel. The portions so scooped out are comprised of two or more segments each in which is substantially separate from the remaining segments.

  • Patent number: 5467586
Abstract: An improved lawn mower blade including a cutting blade detachably affixed to a surface of the lawn mower blade and extending outwardly beyond a forward edge of the lawn mower blade, and a cover plate affixed to the cutting blade on the surface of the cutting blade opposite the lawn mower blade. The cover plate is in compressive contact with a surface of the cutting blade. The cutting blade has a thickness less than the thickness of the lawn mower blade. The cutting blade has a beveled edge extending outwardly beyond the forward edge of the lawn mower blade. The cutting blade is secured between the cover plate and the lawn mower blade by a plurality of bolts extending therethrough. A second cutting blade is detachably affixed to a surface of the lawn mower blade at an opposite end of the lawn mower blade and a second cover plate is affixed to a surface of the second cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 5199350
Abstract: A cutting device for cutting an object such as a citrus fruit includes an outer casing containing a cutting assembly. The cutting assembly includes a first cutting blade extending radially outwardly from the central axis to a side wall of the casing and cuts the fruit so as to completely sever one portion thereof from another. A second cutting blade extends outwardly radially from the central axis towards the side wall of the casing, but does not reach the side wall. The second cutting blade partially severs one portion of the object from another. In use, fruit if forced over the cutting assembly. A scooping device is provided which generally comprises a hemispherical-shaped scooping member with a dome and a substantially circular edge which forms a cutting blade. The scooping device has a shaft extending outwardly from a point on the outer surface so that rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the scooping member thereby removing the edible inner portion of the fruit.

  • Patent number: 5101718
Abstract: A cutting device for cutting an objection such as a citrus fruit includes a cutting assembly and an outer casing about the cutting assembly. The casing is generally cylindrical having a central axis, and has open ends. The cutting blade assembly includes a first cutting blade extending radially outward from the central axis to a sidewall of the casing, the first cutting blade cutting the fruit in a manner so as to completely sever one portion thereof from another. The cutting assembly further includes a second cutting blade extending outwardly radially from the central axis toward the sidewall of the casing, but not reaching the sidewall, the second cutting blade cutting the object in a manner so as to partially sever one portion of the object from another. In use, the fruit is introduced into the cutting device at the first open end, is forced over the cutting assembly, and exits the cutting device at the second end.

  • Patent number: 5044268
Abstract: The invention provides for a cutting device having a mounting member comprised of two cylindrical portions mounted on a base. The two cylindrical portions are arranged co-axially, and define between them a recess adapted to accommodate an article to be cut. Cutting blades are provided and comprise a first cutting blade of tubular shape mounted on a cylindrical portion of the mounting block and a flat blade mounted in a slot in one of the mounting blocks. A moving mechanism is provided to move the blades across the recess when an article is located therein, thereby removing and discarding the outer portions of the article. The invention further comprises a feed system for feeding the article into the recess of the cutting device. The feed system comprises a segmenting apparatus, a transport line between the segmenting apparatus and the recess of the cutting device, as well as propulsion means for moving the article from the transport line into the recess.
