  • Publication number: 20160194707
Abstract: The invention provides materials and methods for the detection of nucleic acid expression via the 3? portion of expressed sequences. Embodiments of the invention include the use of microarrays comprising nucleic acid probes that are complementary to the 3? and of expressed sequences and by the use of quantitative PCR (Q-PCR) based amplification of sequences found at or near the 3? end of expressed sequences. The invention may be used to detect the presence of expressed nucleic acids encoding particular gene products (sequences present in a “transcriptome”).

  • Publication number: 20160003717
Abstract: The present invention generally discloses an extraction system that provides a locale for fluid processing and extraction on a post-microcapture transfer film. The extraction system includes a transfer film carrier and an extraction device forming a reservoir. The extraction system selectively excludes regions of the transfer film from the reservoir to advantageously reduce contamination due to matter adhered to the transfer film by non-specific transfer.

  • Patent number: 8715955
Abstract: Systems and methods for automated laser microdissection are disclosed. In one variation, targeted biological material is manually or automatically selected and a transfer film is placed in juxtaposition to the location of an interior of a cut path. In another variation, a sample of biological material is mounted onto a polymer membrane which is then placed onto a substrate. Targeted biological material is manually or automatically selected and a transfer film is placed in juxtaposition with the targeted biological material on the side of the biological material. In yet another variation, a sample of biological material is mounted onto a polymer membrane which is then inverted onto a substrate. Targeted biological material is manually or automatically selected and a transfer film is placed in juxtaposition with the targeted biological material on the side of the polymer membrane.

  • Publication number: 20140011690
Abstract: A method is provided for detecting one or more analytes in a sample. The method relies, in part, on the ability of functionalized particles added to the sample to partially or completely inhibit the transmission of electromagnetic radiation into and out of the sample through a detection surface in a reaction vessel containing the sample. In a microarray format, the invention can be used to screen millions, billions or more biological elements, such as an organism, cell, protein, nucleic acid, lipid, saccharide, metabolite, or small molecules. Methods, apparatuses and kits are described.
