  • Publication number: 20190106668
Abstract: A method of reconstituting a powdered cell culture media includes providing a mixing apparatus and providing a powdered cell culture media to the fluid chamber of the mixing apparatus, prior to introducing fluid to the chamber. The method further includes introducing fluid to the chamber through an influent port, wherein the influent port is tangentially oriented relative to an inner wall of the fluid chamber to thereby cause the fluid to follow the wall of the fluid chamber in a circular motion, creating a vortex flow in the fluid chamber by introducing fluid at a sufficient flow rate, and enhancing the vortex flow with a geometric fluid flow aid by further channeling the water around the wall of the fluid chamber, around the geometric flow aid. The method further includes continuing to introduce fluid to the chamber and collecting reconstituted fluid that exits the chamber through the effluent port.

  • Publication number: 20170033634
Abstract: An insulation system and method are disclosed for insulating formed coils of hydroelectric machines, such as a hydroelectric generator. The system includes strand/turn insulation that may include one or more layers of different materials, depending upon the dielectric requirements. A ground wall insulation is applied over the group of turns. The coil may be sized in a slot cell section. Additional insulation layers are provided, including a slot corona suppression insulation that extends just beyond stator slots, a voltage grading layer, and an armor layer. Time temperature profiles and preheating may be used to cure coil sections via press and heat. • Patent number: 8845356
Abstract: A power adapter cord for providing electrical power to an electronic item of merchandise from an external source of electrical power includes a cable containing at least one conductor and having a connector at one end configured to lock into a corresponding connector of a power input port provided on the item of merchandise. The connector and the corresponding connector define a mechanical and electrical connection having a connector extraction force greater than the connector extraction force of a standard connector of the same type. Accordingly, the connector prevents accidental or malicious removal of the connector from the power input port and/or discourages theft of the item of merchandise because the connector cannot be forcibly removed without damaging the corresponding connector and thereby rendering the item of merchandise inoperable. In exemplary embodiments, the connector is a modified micro-USB plug.

  • Patent number: 7874824
Abstract: Problems with incipiently gelling alginate or low-methoxy pectate sols in a bath of an aqueous solution containing calcium ions are reduced by having in the bath a perforated support surface which can be oscillated. The surface is preferably oscillated horizontally and vertically and preferably these oscillations are synchronised. Transport means to remove the product from the bath can be provided at one end of the bath. It is advantageous to ensure that at the beginning of the vertical oscillation the horizontal oscillation is in the direction of such transport means. Portions of the sol can be formed by extrusion either below or above the surface of the bath. The process is particularly useful for sols which have a sugar content greater than 10%. The invention also provides equipment comprising such a perforated support surface.

  • Patent number: 7550171
Abstract: Our invention is concerned with a process and equipment and the resulting product. The process and equipment produce simulated cylindrical olive products with a central core. An aqueous alginate or low-methoxy pectate sol containing dispersed olive flesh is co-extruded through a nozzle with a stream of an aqueous solution containing dissolved calcium ions flowing through an inner core of the nozzle at not more than +/?30° to the horizontal into a bath of an aqueous solution containing dissolved calcium ions. The sol of alginate or low-methoxy pectate gels by diffusion of the calcium ions from the co-extruded stream containing dissolved calcium ions and from the aqueous solution containing dissolved calcium ions in the bath. A cylindrical tube of gelled alginate or low-methoxy pectate containing pulped olive is formed with a hollow core.

  • Patent number: 7550168
Abstract: The invention provides fruit-like products based on alginate or low-methoxy pectate gel which are spherical with two dimples spaced at opposite extremes of the sphere. These are prepared by extruding a sol through a cylindrical nozzle and at the same time extruding a gelling agent through a tube centrally located in the nozzle and co-terminous with it. The extrudate is cut off at the end of the nozzle below the surface of a bath of the gelling agent. The extrudate is allowed to gel by diffusion of calcium ions. The gelling agent is an aqueous solution containing calcium ions. The sol, which is an aqueous alginate or low-methoxy pectate sol, preferably contains dispersed fruit puree. Preferably the solution in the bath has a lower density than the density of the sol. In a preferred form of the invention equipment is used comprising a nozzle, a centrally spaced tube, a gelling bath and a perforated support surface in the bath for the gelling product.

  • Patent number: 7544380
Abstract: The invention relates to process and apparatus for creating shaped objects from incipiently gelling alginate or low-methoxy pectate sol in which the incipiently gelling sol is guided into cavities of a movable belt. V-shaped wiper blades can be used as guides. The sol is preferably fed onto the belt at a rate not greater than the volumetric feed rate of the cavities. The process and apparatus can be used to prepare such products as imitation fruit e.g. by incorporating pureed fruit in the incipiently gelling sol.

  • Publication number: 20090079566
Abstract: A security device for an item of merchandise having at least one removable component includes a sensor attached to the item of merchandise. The sensor has an extension that extends outwardly from the sensor in a first direction generally parallel to an axis defined by the item of merchandise sufficiently to prevent a removable component from being removed from the item of merchandise. The extension is preferably a plate having an outer surface that is adhered to the sensor and an inner surface that is adhered to the item of merchandise. The extension includes a leg depending from the plate in a second direction that defines an angle with the axis defined by the item of merchandise sufficiently to prevent a removable component from being removed from the item of merchandise when the plate is adhered to the item of merchandise. The sensor is electrically connected to an alarm circuit.
