    Abstract: Method are disclosed for providing live content comprising a plurality of sequential segment files to at least one client device. A method performed in a multimedia streaming service node includes receiving metadata for the live content, where the metadata includes references to at least one representation of the live content. Each representation corresponds to a bitrate and defines timing of at least one of the segment files. A schedule is created that defines when to obtain at least one of the segment files. Segment files are pulled from a content source in accordance with the schedule, and are gradually pushed over a bearer to the at least one client device, as the segment files are pulled to the multimedia streaming service node. Corresponding multimedia streaming service nodes and computer program products are also disclosed.

For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway indicates an Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group to one or more radio access network nodes (100) of the cellular network. For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway (200) indicates a different identifier to the radio access network nodes (100), e.g., in the form of a Tunnel Endpoint Identifier. The gateway (200) sends multicast data of the multicast sessions (111, 112) in one or more Internet Protocol Multicast data packets addressed to the Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group. The multicast data of each of the multicast sessions (111, 112) include the respective identifier to allow identification of the multicast session (111, 112) at the radio access network node (100).

    Abstract: The invention relates to techniques for providing media content in a broadcast scenario to a streaming player, like a DASH player. In order to compensate a problem of variable segment sizes, which leads to the variation in the reception intervals of the media segments, it is proposed to estimate the segment availability time for requesting sub-sequent media segments. The estimation considers a correction value compensating the variation in a reception intervals of media segments so that the streaming player receives the media segments at a constant time interval, namely at the segment duration. In one embodiment it is proposed to use the value of the minBufferTime from the MPDfile, The min BufferTime is namely an indication of the varying segment size of the media content. The minBufferTime indicates the time needed for buffering a media content before starting playing out said media content. The estimation may be done on the client, user equipment UEor on the server device side.

The method comprises the steps of receiving a MPEG transport stream at a first bit rate, the MPEG transport stream comprising a plurality of television channels. Program clock reference (PCR) values are identified in the received MPEG transport stream, and one or more of the program clock reference (PCR) values are adjusted. The MPEG transport stream, including the adjusted program clock reference values, are transmitted at a second bit rate, for example to a receiver device such as a set top box, thereby enabling the set top box to perform a channel change procedure more quickly.

The reshaping (304) of the non-time-critical sessions is performed such that bursts, or silent periods, or both, of the at least one non-time-critical session are aligned with bursts, silent periods, or both, respectively, of the streaming session. By timely aligning the respective bursts and silent periods with each other, the duration of common silent periods may be increased, thereby utilizing air interface resources more efficiently.

In the media distribution system consecutive media segments generated by an encoder are transmitted to a media client, and media descriptions describe expected availability times of media segments for the media client. A method implementation of the technique comprises the step of monitoring an availability time of a media segment compared to an expected availability time of the media segment, wherein the expected availability time is described by, or derived from, a media description. The method further comprises determining whether a deviation of the monitored availability time of the media segment from the expected availability time of the media segment is present, and detecting the encoder functionality issue based on a result of the determination. The encoder functionality issue may comprise one or more of an encoder restart, an encoder malfunction and an encoder time drift.

    Abstract: A system, method, and media edge proxy, MEP, for providing media data such as Internet Protocol Television, IPTV, or Internet radio channels to a media client. The MEP obtains the media data from a media server utilizing a temporary unicast connection and provides the media data obtained from the server to the media client for an initial time period. Upon determining that the initial time period has expired, the MEP obtains the media data via multicast from a multicast router, provides the media data obtained from the router to the media client, and releases the temporary unicast connection. The invention reduces channel switching delay and thus improves quality-of-experience for the end-user. The invention also avoids excessive IGMP JOIN/LEAVE signaling when a user switches quickly through channels.
