  • Patent number: 6672289
Abstract: A micro-pulsation fuel injection system with underpressure stabilizer, comprising a fuel supply system, a fuel tank, a micropump, and a compression pump. The micropump ejects fuel into an intake pipe. The compression pump is connected with a fuel supply pipe of the micropump, for keeping underpressure of the inlet of the micropump against the intake pipe stable. Incoming fuel passes through a fuel chamber, separated by a membrane from a pressure chamber, which in turn is connected to the intake pipe. The membrane deforms according to pressure in the intake pipe, changing volume of the fuel chamber and generating underpressure of fuel therein. Additionally, a regulating valve is installable between the compression pump and the micropump for stabilizing the difference of pressures at the inlet of the micropump and in the intake pipe. Thus the quantity of fuel ejected by the micropump is precisely controlled.

  • Patent number: 6292791
Abstract: A “virtual string” is generated for synthesizing sound produced by plucked-string instruments using recurrent neural networks. The disclosed recurrent neural network, called a Scattering Recurrent Network (SRN), is based on the physics of waves traveling in the string. Vibration measured from a plucked string is used as the training data for the SRN. The trained SRN is a virtual model capable of generating tones similar to the tones generated by the physical string. As with a real string, the “virtual string” corresponding to the SRN responds differently to different types of string “plucking” motions.

  • Patent number: 6230151
Abstract: A method and system for generating a decision-tree classifier in parallel in a shared-memory multiprocessor system is disclosed. The processors first generate in the shared memory an attribute list for each record attribute. Each attribute list is assigned to a processor. The processors independently determine the best splits for their respective assigned lists, and cooperatively determine a global best split for all attribute lists. The attribute lists are reassigned to the processors and split according to the global best split into the lists for child nodes. The split attribute lists are again assigned to the processors and the process is repeated for each new child node until each attribute list for the new child nodes includes only tuples of the same record class or a fixed number of tuples.

  • Patent number: 6055952
Abstract: An automatic decompression device for four-stroke engines comprises a cam gear, a counterweight, and an acting body. The cam gear includes a cam surface and a recess containing the acting body, and the counterweight includes a plate with a guide slot. Besides, the recess pierces the cam surface. Since the acting body is engaged to the guide slot of the counterweight and there exist external forces acting on the counterweight, the counterweight is forced to move the acting body upwardly or downwards by the guidance of the plate and the limitation of the guide slot. Consequently, the acting body is exposed beyond the cam surface or tucked into the recess. With the motion of the acting body, the opening and closing duty cycles of the intake and exhaust valves are biased. When the engine of the invention is static, the acting body is exposed beyond the cam surface to partially release the pressure of the engine's combustion chamber for manually starting the engine.

  • Patent number: 5926820
Abstract: A method for performing a range max/min query in a database, in which the data is represented as a multi-dimensional data cube, is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: partitioning the data cube into multi-level multi-dimensional blocks which are represented by a tree structure; determining the index to the maximum or minimum value for each block; generating a range max/min result from the values of the cells selected from the cells in the query region Q, and the cells referenced by the indexes at the nodes corresponding to the cells in the query region Q, using the tree structure and determined cell indexes. A branch-and-bound method is used to repeatedly reduce the size of the query region from a cell within the region, based on sub-trees whose roots are cells in the region. To further improve the method performance, one or more reference arrays may also be used to quickly traverse the tree in determining the max/min cell indexes.

  • Patent number: 5890151
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for performing a partial-sum query in a database in which the data is represented as a multi-dimensional data cube. The data cube is partitioned into multi-dimensional blocks. One or more covering codes are then selected for each block, and a group of partial-sums is computed for each block based on its covering codes. At query time, the query result is generated by combining the partial-sums for those blocks that intersect with the query subset. To improve the query response time and reduce system storage requirements, the covering codes are preferably augmented as single-weight extended covering codes or composition-extended covering codes. Also, a second partial-sum may also be computed for each block to efficiently find its partial sum, based on the block's first partial-sums and the bit-position differences between selected codewords for the block and bit strings representing the cell indexes of the blocks intersecting with the query subset.

  • Patent number: 5799300
Abstract: A method for performing a range-sum query in a database, in which the data is represented as a multi-dimensional data cube, is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: selecting a subset of the dimensions of the data cube; computing a set of prefix-sums along the selected dimensions, based on the aggregate values in the cube corresponding the queried ranges; and generating a range-sum result based on the computed prefix-sums. Two d-dimensional arrays A and P are used for representing the data cube and the prefix-sums of the data cube, respectively. By maintaining the prefix-sum array P of the same size as the data cube, all range queries for a given cube can be answered in constant time, irrespective of the size of the sub-cube circumscribed by a query, using the inverse binary operator of the SUM operator. Alternatively, only auxiliary information for any user-specified fraction of the size of the d-dimensional data cube is maintained, to minimize the required system storage.

  • Patent number: 5682470
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for achieving collective consistency in the detection and reporting of failures in a distributed computing system having multiple processors. Each processor is capable of being called by a parallel application for system status. Initially, each processor sends the other processors its view on the status of the processors. It then waits for similar views from other processors except those regarded as failed in its own view. If the received views are identical to the view of the processor, the processor returns its view to the parallel application. In a preferred embodiment, if the views are not identical to its view, the processor sets its view to the union of the received views and its current view. The steps are then repeated. Alternately, the steps are repeated if the processor does not have information that each of the processors not regarded as failed in its view forms an identical union view.

  • Patent number: 5598570
Abstract: The present invention comprises a computer system having a plurality of processors configured in an architecture having at least two subgraphs wherein at least a first subgraph and a second subgraph having the same topology and corresponding processors being stepwise complimentary for a data redistribution operation. Each processor of the computer system comprises a plurality of data-blocks and an executable program. The executable program performs the data redistribution operation by first exchanging in parallel the first half of the data-blocks of a processor in the first subgraph with the corresponding processor of the second subgraph. The redistributions of data with the corresponding stepwise complimentary processors are then simultaneously performed utilizing the full bandwidth of the data links. A reverse exchange of the first half of the data blocks between the processors of the first and the second subgraphs are then performed at the end.

  • Patent number: 5533483
Abstract: An engine air intake system comprises a main air duct and at least one bypass air duct, which are located side by side. The bypass air duct is smaller in cross-sectional area than the main air duct which is provided with a throttle contiguous to the bypass air duct having therein a control valve. The throttle and the control valve are regulated by a link mechanism such that the throttle is closed when the engine is operating at a low or intermediate load rate, and that the control valve is opened partially when the throttle remains closed, thereby resulting in an acceleration of air current flowing through the bypass air duct and an improvement in the tumble or swirl ratio. As the engine is operating at a progressively increasing load rate, the throttle is caused to open gradually to bring about an increase in the engine air intake volume so as to enable the engine to operate under the optimum condition.
