  • Publication number: 20140135844
Abstract: A spinal stabilization system including a connecting rod and a bone screw. The connecting rod includes an elongate rounded section, an elongate head portion, and a neck portion connecting the elongate rounded section with the elongate head portion. The bone screw includes a head portion defining a slot, a shank extending longitudinally from the head portion, and a set screw configured to secure the connecting rod in the slot. The head portion includes a pair of radially opposing walls defining the slot therebetween. The head portion includes a trailing end and a leading end. The trailing end includes a guide member defining an aperture configured and dimensioned to receive the set screw therethrough. The aperture is in communication with the slot. In particular, the guide member interconnects the pair of radially opposing walls.

  • Patent number: 6949110
Abstract: A connector assembly for connecting a surgical saw blade to a housing of a surgical instrument. The connector assembly allows a surgeon to align, insert and lock the surgical blade in the collet of the surgical instrument without any special tools, and further provides a stable and robust platform for mounting the surgical saw blade thereto. The connector assembly includes a cam lever assembly for allowing the user to apply a clamping force to the surgical saw blade with minimum actuation force.

  • Patent number: 6257351
Abstract: A surgical instrument having a locking mechanism for preventing an output shaft of the surgical instrument from rotating and a further locking mechanism for mounting a battery pack to a distal end of a housing of the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument further includes a clutch mechanism for limiting the torque of a drive shaft of the surgical instrument. The locking mechanism for preventing the output shaft from rotating includes a locking switch which mates with a locking cap disposed on the output shaft. The locking mechanism for mounting the battery pack to the housing includes a groove at the distal end of the housing and a retaining ring which engages the groove when the battery pack is mounted on the housing. The clutch mechanism includes a clutch plate that interfaces with both the output shaft and the drive shaft and prevents failure of the motor shaft.

  • Patent number: 6007540
Abstract: A surgical instrument having a locking throttle mechanism. The throttle is pivotally mounted to a wand-type housing by a hinge, and the housing includes a tool tip and a connecting mechanism. The throttle fits in an indented portion of the housing when it is in an ON position. An actuating switch is placed under the throttle and is controlled by a sliding grip/safety switch located on the throttle. A slidable locking mechanism is placed within a cavity of the throttle and may be moved between a locked position and an unlocked position. In the locked position, a portion of the slidable locking mechanism communicates with a locking cavity proximate to the lip of the housing. A spring is located between the throttle and the housing and urges the throttle into an OFF position and is compressed when the throttle is advanced downward towards the housing.
