Abstract: The present invention is directed to active compositions, such as adsorbents and catalysts, which comprise cuprous compounds dispersed on amorphous oxide or carbon macroporous supports. The compositions are prepared by impregnating cupric compounds on pretreated supports with the aid of an aqueous solution of an ammonium salt of a di- or polycarboxylic acid dispersant, such as ammonium citrate, followed by activation of the cupric compound or reduction of the cupric compound to the corresponding cuprous compound. Methods of synthesis and processes utilizing the compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: Composite semipermeable membranes comprising porous adsorptive material supported by a porous substrate are disclosed for use in a process for the separation of multicomponent gas mixtures. In the process, one or more primary components adsorb within the pores of the adsorptive material and diffuse by surface flow through the membrane to yield a permeate stream enriched in one or more of the primary components. Methods for making the composite membranes are described.

Abstract: A mild oxidizing acid wash of activated carbon in the presence of an oxidation catalyst produces an adsorbent, with a large carboxyl IR spectra peak, having a favorable water adsorption isotherm that can be used for both pressure swing adsorption, PSA, or thermal swing adsorption, TSA, drying of gases. The oxidation catalyst is a metal salt wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of copper, chromium and nickel.
