  • Publication number: 20110038639
Abstract: An optical communication serial interface is employed to power up a device from a powered down state to a powered on state. An optical receiver element receives serial optical signals transmitted by at least one optical fiber and converts the received serial optical signals to electrical signals. A low level reception converter detects and decodes the electrical signals to provide data and control words from detected and decoded normal electrical signals for a high level command processor. A power supply maintains low level power to at least the optical receiver element and the low level reception converter of the optical communication serial interface while the device is in the powered down state. The low level reception converter detects a particular abnormal sequence of electrical signals; and in response to detecting the particular abnormal sequence of electrical signals, asserts a control signal to power up the device controllable power supply.

  • Patent number: 7885805
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for simulating multiple hosts. An object module creates a plurality of host object instances. Each host object instance simulates a host to a storage device connection. In addition, each host object instance includes a unique identifier. A traffic generator serially establishes communications between each host object instance and a storage device using the unique identifier. The traffic generator serially establishes communications until a number of host object instances in communication with the storage device is greater than a host threshold. A verification module verifies that the storage device established communications with each host object instance according to a specified connection protocol. The verification module communicates a pass if each host object instance communication is verified.

  • Publication number: 20100272252
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include methods, apparatus, systems and means for distinguishing between microphone line signals resulting from: actuation of a microphone button of a headset plugged into a telephone device jack, and removal of the headset plug form the jack. During a telephone call, a first signal can be detected on a microphone line of a headset jack to indicate whether a microphone button of the headset is actuated. Also, while the headset plug is being disconnected from the jack, a transition on the microphone line can be detected, from a second signal indicating that the microphone is being disconnected, to a third signal indicating that the microphone button is actuated. Consequently, to avoid erroneously hanging up a call, transitions to the third signal when removing the plug form the jack can be ignored and the call can be maintained. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20100260173
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for unified communication across circuit-switched and packet-switched network domains. In one embodiment, voice or data available in one domain (e.g., circuit-switched such as a PSTN) can be seamlessly forwarded onto another domain (e.g. packet-switched such as a WLAN). A bridge or intermediary device is used that is coupled to both the circuit-switched network and packet-switched network. This bridge device allows bidirectional operation and permits, for example, a user to receive a telephone call at a user's home network via a PSTN, and forward that telephone call or information related to that call over another network such as a local IP network (e.g. a WLAN) to the user, where the user can answer that call or otherwise receive information associated with the call on their primary user device (e.g., cellular phone).

  • Patent number: 7809865
Abstract: A method to set a communication speed in a Serial-Attached Small Computer System Interface (“SAS”)/Serial-ATA (“SATA”) distance extender apparatus comprising a plurality of supported communication speeds and a local communication speed, a fibre channel interface, a memory, a processor, and a communication bus interconnecting the SAS/SATA Interface, the Fibre Channel interface, the memory, and the processor. The method detects traffic received by the Fibre Channel interface, and determines if the traffic comprises a SAS/SATA Open Address frame. If the traffic comprises a SAS/SATA Open Address frame, the method then determines if the local communication speed matches a communication speed utilized by an interconnected remote SAS/SATA Interface. If the local communication speed matches a communication speed utilized by an interconnected remote SAS/SATA Interface, the method transmits the traffic using the local SAS/SATA Interface.

  • Patent number: 7728558
Abstract: Systems and methods for selectively changing the current threshold of current limiting circuitry are provided. The current limit threshold of current limiting circuitry may be selectively changed based on a detected power source using a resistive network. The current limiting threshold may be selected by changing a resistance value of a resistive network electrically coupled to an input on the current limiting circuitry (e.g., battery controller) for programming the current limiting threshold. The resistance value received by the currently limiting circuitry at this input may set the current threshold and thus the maximum magnitude of current that may be provided to charge a battery or other energy storage device located in the electronic device (e.g., a mobile phone).
