Abstract: Derivatization of an elemental carbon surface is accomplished by exposing the carbon surface to an aprotic solvent containing a hydrazone molecule of formula (I) or the corresponding salt of formula (II) wherein R1 is an organic group, and R2 is an organic group or hydrogen and decomposing the hydrazone in the presence of elemental carbon to create a carbene moiety of formula (III): which attaches to the carbon surface. The attached groups may be redox active so that the derivatized carbon may be used in an electrochemical sensor.

Abstract: A geographic information system and method are disclosed which facilitate the browsing of large geocoded datasets. In a embodiment, a method displays data elements on a map. The method includes the steps: identifying data elements of a dataset that geocode to an area of the map; arranging the data elements into one or more nested shapes; determining a coordinate for the one or more nested shapes; and displaying the one or more nested shapes on the map centered on the coordinate. The coordinate corresponds to the area of the map.

Abstract: A computer system is disclosed for providing an integrated calendar/conferencing system. One such system comprises a conferencing system in communication with a server. The conferencing system establishes online conferences associated with a user having a corresponding user account comprising conference event data for one or more scheduled online conferences. The server comprises a user database and an event analysis component. The user database stores the user account and the conference event data. The event analysis component: obtains calendar event data from one or more remote application providers; and analyzes the calendar event data and the stored conference event data and identifies matching custom content to be presented to the user. The server presents to a mobile calendar application an integrated view of the calendar event data and the conference event data with the matching custom content.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for creating and using persistent connections in SAS networks. A persistent connection may be a connection that persists for longer than the usual SAS connection. More specifically, it is a connection that is not subject to periodic tear downs by SAS devices according to existing SAS protocols (such as, by using CLOSE or BREAK primitives). Instead, persistent connections may be removable bra link reset Persistent connections may be used in situations in which the overhead associated with the usual tear down and re-establishment of connections in a SAS network may be considered too high in comparison with its intended benefits. Abstract: A sensor for hydrogen in a fluid medium has a chamber for electrolyte with a window which is selectively permeable to hydrogen to allow hydrogen to pass from the fluid medium under test into the electrolyte in the chamber. A plurality of electrodes in contact with the ionic liquid electrolyte are used to observe hydrogen concentration by voltammetry. The electrolyte is an ionic liquid. Applications where such a sensor may be used include a wellbore tool for measuring the content of hydrogen in a subterranean fluid, monitoring of fiber-optic cables for damage by hydrogen, corrosion monitoring, and small-scale process plant where hydrogen is part of a gas stream.

Abstract: Systems and methods for hosting communication sessions are described. A communication session between a first communication device and a second communication device is hosted in an Internet Protocol (IP) based packet data network in which a contact server functions as a bridge service between the first communication device and the second communication device. At least one of a communication link between the first communication device and the contact server and the second communication device and the contact server is initially a cellular communication link over a cellular network. The contact server analyzes at least two call quality characteristics of the cellular communication link and causes the communication device having the cellular communication link to handoff to an alternate communication link on an alternate network when at least one analyzed call quality characteristic of the cellular communication link crosses a threshold level.

This bridging group maybe tetramethylene. As compared to an equivalent sensor with ferrocene, the tolerance of elevated temperature is improved and so is the working life at ambient temperature.

The process can derivatize carbon with a redox active compound having a functional group which can be converted electrochemically between reduced and oxidized forms. Such derivatized carbon may be used in an electrode of an electrochemical sensor.
