  • Publication number: 20130012437
Abstract: Lytic peptides, including fusion peptides of lytic peptides conjugated with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone or modified versions thereof to target luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone receptors, are disclosed. The lytic peptides show anti-proliferative activity against human prostate cancer cell lines, but are nontoxic to normal primary human prostate epithelial cells or to bone marrow stromal cells in co-culture. The lytic peptides have specificity for and anti-proliferative activity against prostate cancer tumor cells, and low toxicity for normal prostate cells, making the peptides useful in therapies for prostate cancer.

  • Patent number: 8328492
Abstract: A can end member has a center panel, a circumferential chuck wall, and a transition wall. The center panel is centered about a longitudinal axis and has a peripheral edge. The center panel also has a step portion located radially outwardly from the longitudinal axis. The step portion has an annular convex portion joined to an annular concave portion and displaces at least a portion of the center panel vertically in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis. The curl defines an outer perimeter of the end member. The circumferential chuck wall extends downwardly from the curl to the transition wall. The transition wall connects the chuck wall with the peripheral edge of the center panel. The transition wall has a folded portion extending outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 7909196
Abstract: A can end for a container has a curl defining an outer perimeter of the can end. A chuckwall extends downwardly from the curl. A means for increasing the strength of the can end is integral with the chuckwall, and a center panel is integral with the means for increasing the strength of the can end. The center panel has a product side, a public side, a rivet, and a displaceable tear panel. A non-detachable tab is staked to the central panel wall by the rivet. First and second void regions of the tab are separated by a narrow strip of the central webbing. A portion of the narrow strip extends downwardly and approaches the public side of the central panel wherein a height of the lift end of the tab above the public side of the central panel is maintained at a predetermined height.

  • Patent number: 7748563
Abstract: An end member (130) for a container has a central panel (12) extending radially outwardly from a central axis. A first panel radius (114) is located along a peripheral edge of the central panel (12). A countersink (16) is integral with the first panel radius (114). A chuckwall (15) extends upwardly from the countersink (16) to a seaming curl (14) located at an outer perimeter of the end member (130). An approach point (134) is defined by a lower outer position of an axially stacked second end member (132). A bend (108) is located on the chuckwall (15). The bend (108) having an outwardly directed angle with a radius of curvature (RCW1) which adapted to position the chuckwall (15) radially outwardly of the approach point (134) and in spaced relationship thereto.

  • Publication number: 20080083255
Abstract: A single action press for forming a shell used to make a can end includes a first tool and an opposed second tool. The first tool includes a die center insert that performs a forming operation on disc cut from a sheet of end material. The first tool is configured and arranged wherein force is supplied to the die center insert during the downstroke and force is removed from the die center insert at the bottom of the downstroke and at the start of the upstroke, to thereby enable the die center insert to disengage from the shell. One specific embodiment uses a die center piston and compressed air to apply force to the die center insert. Another embodiment uses a cam and cam follower arrangement to remove axial forces at the bottom of the downstroke and either springs or gas pressure to apply force to the die center insert during the downstroke.

  • Publication number: 20070124677
Abstract: A function-oriented user interface presents users with selections related to what they want to do, rather than selections related to what tool they want to use. Functions may be dragged onto elements (data objects) or elements may be dragged onto functions to initiate activity. The elements themselves may present icons representing functions that are available such as adding a voice note or addressing to another person.

  • Publication number: 20070102933
Abstract: An electrical generator having two generator components, namely a coil and a magnet. One of the generator components is attached to a fixed or buoyant pylon, and the other of the generator components is attached to a float that rises and falls in response to changes in the water level of a body of water. This causes relative motion between the two generator components and results in electrical power being generated by the coil. The buoyant pylon may be anchored by a flexible attachment to the bottom of the body of water. The float need not be coaxial with respect to the pylon. A single float may be used with more than one pylon and generator component. More than one float may be used with a particular generator component. Fixed pylons may also be used as a breakwater or as a support for a structure.

  • Publication number: 20060186127
Abstract: A can end and can body are seamed to each other using a seaming roller, seaming chuck and a laser fusing the peripheral portion of the can end to the can body. Laser seaming allows less metal to be used in the can end and can body. The can end and can body seam is further reinforced in order to ensure that the can is capable of withstanding internal pressures. The reinforcing techniques include crimping the seam with one or more crimping rollers, reforming the seam so as to incline the seam towards a central axis extending through the center of the can end and can body, and using multiple laser welds spaced apart from each other in the vicinity of the seam.
