  • Publication number: 20020101524
Abstract: An integrated color interpolation and color space conversion technique and apparatus. A raw image that is arranged in a Bayer pattern where each pixel has only one of the color components needed to form a full color resolution pixel may be converted using this technique directly to a YCrCb image space without any intermediate conversion or interpolation steps. Specifically, in one instance, an 8-bit Bayer pattern raw image may be converted directly to a 12-bit YCrCb space in a single step approach. Such an integrated technique may more readily and inexpensively implemented in hardware such as on a digital camera, or in software.

  • Publication number: 20020090107
Abstract: A method of encoding a watermark into a digital image. The method includes partitioning an original image into blocks and then determining a variance value of each block. The blocks are then arranged according to the variance values. A number of selected blocks are identified, where the number depends upon the size of the watermark. The blocks selected are then arranged by their location. Data from the watermark is used to replace bits in a representation of each of the selected blocks with data from the watermark. A method of decoding is also discussed.

  • Publication number: 20020063789
Abstract: A color filter array includes arrangements of green-filtered pixels to optimize performance and accuracy of color interpolation operations. Where red or blue pixels are found, green values are estimated with a high degree of accuracy. Unknown red and blue intensity values are interpolated by converting known red and blue values to hue. The interpolated hue values are then converted to intensity data.

  • Publication number: 20020063899
Abstract: An imaging device is tethered to a processor-based system by a high-bandwidth serial bus. Image data produced in the imaging device is minimally processed before being transferred to the processor-based system for more extensive image processing. In particular, compression inside the imaging device may be avoided, for some image resolutions. Where higher throughput of image data through the high-bandwidth bus is desired, the imaging device performs scaled color interpolation on the image data before its transmission to the processor-based system.

  • Publication number: 20020057848
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is directed to a method of building an electronic file, using an electronic camera such as a digital camera, that captures 3-dimensional objects. A number of image data tiles that represent the images are generated by the camera. A number of text data tiles each containing text recognized in a corresponding one of the image data tiles is generated. The method includes searching for overlapping text in the text tiles, and pasting the text tiles in proper alignment into an electronic file.

  • Patent number: 6381357
Abstract: What is disclosed is a method including downloading a sequence of images from an image sensor, and then marking on a map a pixel location of the sensor defective if a Defective Vote score exceeds a first threshold, the score tallied over all captured images. The defective pixel map is stored on a host computer, which performs the defective pixel detection on behalf of the sensor, rather than directly on the device incorporating the image sensor.

  • Patent number: 6377280
Abstract: A method comprising constructing virtual (Discrete Wavelet Transform) DWT sub-bands from an image by performing the DWT and then applying an inverse DWT upon the virtual sub-bands, the result of the inverse DWT representing an up-sampled version of the image. In an alternate embodiment, an apparatus comprising a computer readable medium having instructions which when executed perform constructing virtual (Discrete Wavelet Transform) DWT sub-bands from an image by performing a DWT upon the image, applying an inverse DWT upon the virtual sub-bands, the result of the inverse DWT representing an up-sampled version of the image.

  • Patent number: 6373481
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for determining a focus value in an image, including selecting an area of interest in the image and a color plane of interest, is described. The color plane of interest within the area of interest is filtered to produce a filtered region. The mean absolute value of the filtered region is determined.

  • Patent number: 6351555
Abstract: A companding method is disclosed where a set of factors related to the color characteristics of captured images are determined. Using these characteristics, a companding scheme is developed such that each pixel is lowered in resolution, but in such a manner that the image retains important features. These factors related to color characteristics are determined in part by analyzing histograms related to the image.
