  • Publication number: 20090091278
Abstract: A motor assembly of multiple motors for use in driving a shared downhole load within a well. In particular, the assembly may employ substantially constant adjustable speed motors. These may include permanent magnet synchronous machine motors. The motors may be configured to operate at given speeds that may be downwardly adjusted depending on the amount of torque output independently exhibited by the individual motors. In this manner, a significant divergence in torque output between the motors may be avoided so as to ensure substantial load sharing between all of the motors of the assembly.

  • Publication number: 20080202767
Abstract: A well logging instrument deployment device includes a housing configured to be coupled to a pipe string. A carrier sub is disposed inside the housing and configured to move longitudinally inside the housing. At least one well logging instrument is coupled to the carrier sub. A latch is configured to retain the well logging instrument and carrier sub in a first longitudinal position along the housing such that the well logging instrument is disposed entirely inside the housing. The latch is configured to retain the well logging instrument and carrier in a second position such that at least a portion of the well logging instrument extends outwardly from the housing.

  • Publication number: 20080196901
Abstract: A downhole tractor assembly that is configured for open-hole applications and of a self-aligning nature. The self-aligning nature of the assembly is effectuated through a tractor portion which is rotable about an axis of an elongated body of the assembly independent of a separate centralizing portion of the assembly. That is, the tractor portion, configured for interfacing an open-hole well wall of potentially irregular morphology, is independently rotable so as to maintain a position of substantially optimized driving friction at the interface during tractoring. Maintenance of optimized driving friction in this manner may occur irrespective of the orientation of the centralizing portion of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 7407005
Abstract: A cable release apparatus includes a housing and latch mounted at one end of the housing. The latch has a central opening and a plurality of projecting members extending into the housing. A releasable connector is mounted inside the housing. An actuator has one end disposed in the central opening in the latch and another end in contact with the releasable connector. The actuator is movable between a first position prior to activation of the releaseable connector and a second position wherein the releasable connector is activated. Prior to activation of the releasable connector, the latch is held in place by an interference fit between the projecting members and the housing. When the releasable connector is activated, the projecting members are deflected by applying tension to the latch, thereby releasing the latch from the housing.

  • Patent number: 6920936
Abstract: A substantially constant force actuator that is applicable to centralizers, anchors and tractors for use in wells and is applicable to lifting devices such as jacks and load supporting devices. One or more sets of linkage arms are angularly movable by the force of one or more force transmitting members from a minimum angle with the force transmitting members at maximum spacing to a maximum angle with the force transmitting members at minimum spacing to impart a substantially constant force to an object or surface, with the direction of the force being substantially perpendicular to the direction of relative linear movement of the force transmitting members. With the linkage arms at their minimum angles, movement control elements on at least one of the force transmitting members react with guide surfaces of the linkage arms to achieve angular linkage movement and to develop a substantially constant force during angular linkage movement.
