  • Publication number: 20080298308
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards providing event-triggered communication in a half duplex communication environment of a wireless communication network (10). A first end terminal (12) sends a selection of an end terminal (14) in a group of terminals to act as an event notifying device to a server (22). The event notifying device (14) compares an event with a threshold and sends an event notifier to the server if the event exceeds the threshold. If it receives the event notifier, the server prioritises data from the event notifying device over ongoing communication sessions for other devices in the group, receives data from the event notifying device associated with the event notifier and transports data indicative of the event to other devices of the group, in order to inform them of the event.

  • Publication number: 20070123284
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of reducing setup delay for an uplink message from a user terminal (UT) in a delay sensitive service in a radio telecommunications system, such as a push to talk service (PoC), by predicting that delay sensitive data is about to be transmitted, sending, as a response to the prediction, a connection setup signal from the terminal to a basestation subsystem (BSS) in order to set up an early uplink radio connection, and transmitting the delay sensitive data via the early uplink connection. There is also provided a user terminal (UT) and a radio telecommunications system.

  • Publication number: 20070047515
Abstract: The invention relates to a size variable playout buffer (120) adapted for temporarily storing data packets comprising bursty audio data received over a communications system (1) at user equipment (100). The temporary storage and size variability compensates for changes in bit-rate or any transmission delay over the communications system (1). According to the invention, the size of the playout buffer (120) is adapted based on the audio burst length. Typically, the buffer size is controlled based on length values of multiple audio bursts, e.g. an average of multiple audio burst lengths, including a weighted average length. The number (M) of audio burst lengths to be employed in the averaging is preferably dynamically determined based on an audio burst length (average) value.

  • Publication number: 20050249296
Abstract: The invention is based on the recognition that optimal or at least improved performance can be obtained by providing relevant information that enables selection of which sub-block to set forth for transmission from the transmitting side to the receiving side. The idea according to the invention is to measure, for at least one data block, the reception quality of a number of received sub-blocks, and select which sub-block to set forth for transmission from the transmitting side based on the measured sub-block reception quality. For example, when all or several sub-blocks of a given data block have been received but the data block can still not be successfully decoded, it would normally be best to retransmit the sub-block that has the lowest quality. This generally increases the probability of successful decoding of the data block, thus increasing the throughput and reducing the delay.

  • Publication number: 20050227657
Abstract: Perceived interactivity in user communications is achieved by reducing a perceived delay switching the active transmitter in the communication without having to reduce actual transmission and setup delays associated with a communication exchange. A sound signal is identified in the user communication. The sound signal is analyzed to identify or estimate a sound signal segment. The sound signal segment is preferably (though not necessarily) located at the beginning or the end of the sound signal. The sound signal segment may be selected directly from the sound signal itself, from a modified version of the sound signal, or from a signal associated with the sound signal. A determination is made that a length or duration of the sound signal segment should be or can be modified. One or more modifications for the sound signal segment are determined and are provided to one or more processing units to perform the modification(s).

  • Publication number: 20050159166
Abstract: A quality of service profile for a mobile communication subscriber unit is determined and includes one or more mobile-specific desired quality of service parameters. Actual values for the service parameter(s) is(are) determined and fed back to a link quality controller to determine whether they are in an acceptable range or relationship with corresponding actual quality of service parameter values. A modulation and/or coding scheme for transmitting the information over the radio link is selected or adjusted based on whether the desired and actual quality of service parameters are in an acceptable range or acceptable relationship. A combined “desired” quality of service parameter using the first and second quality of service parameters (or more if desired) may be determined. A combined “actual” quality of service parameter using first and second actual quality service parameter values is determined.

  • Patent number: 6611909
Abstract: In a computer system the instruction decoding unit for translating program instructions to microcode instructions operates dynamically. Thus the unit receives state signals indicating the state of the computer, such as a trace enabling signal, influencing the translation process in the instruction decoding unit. These state signals are added to the operation code of the program instruction to be decoded, the operation code of the program instruction thus being extended and used as input to a translating table, the extended operation code of the program instruction being taken as an address of a field in the table. The addresses and thus the contents of the fields addressed for the same operation code of a program instruction can then be different for different values of the state signals. Thus generally, the state signals cause the instruction decoder to change its translating algorithm so that the decoder can decode an operation code differently depending on the state which the signals adopt.
