The method includes receiving a query that corresponds to content associated with members of an online social network, generating search results that are responsive to the query, and obtaining information that characterizes a personal advertisement that advertises a particular member of the online social network. The method also includes comparing information associated with the search results to the information that characterizes the personal advertisement to determine whether the personal advertisement is related to the search results. The method also includes providing the personal advertisement for display with the search results in response to determining that the information that characterizes the personal advertisement is related to the search results.
