  • Patent number: 7710523
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is constituted of a TFT substrate and an opposing substrate which are arranged so as to be opposite to each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. In addition, in the liquid crystal layer, formed is a polymer into which a polymer component added to liquid crystal is polymerized, and which determines directions in which liquid crystal molecules tilt when voltage is applied. In the TFT substrate, formed are a sub picture element electrode directly connected to a TFT and a sub picture element electrode connected to the TFT through capacitive coupling. In each of these sub picture element electrodes, formed are slits extending in directions respectively at angles of 45 degrees, 135 degrees, 225 degrees and 315 degrees to the X axis.

  • Patent number: 7697106
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device of the present invention has a structure in which vertically aligned liquid crystal is sealed between a TFT substrate and a CF substrate. Pixel electrodes in which slits are provided are formed on the TFT substrate, while cell gap holding spacers and domain defining projections are formed on the CF substrate. For example, positive type photoresist is coated on a common electrode. Then, first exposure is executed by using a mask for light-shielding spacer forming regions and projection forming regions, and then second exposure is executed by using a mask for light-shielding the spacer forming regions. Then, the photoresist is developed. Accordingly, the spacers and the projections, each having a different height, can be formed simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 7352419
Abstract: In order to suppress color tint during display of black, chromaticity is changed when black is displayed while maintaining chromaticity when white is displayed. For this purpose, the pigment to be dispersed in a color resist is adjusted in particle size and concentration. Such adjustment is so performed that the chromaticity difference between displayed white and black becomes 0.01 or smaller in the x-y chromaticity coordinates by varying the transmissivity of color pixels during display of black. With such a structure, successfully provided is a color liquid crystal display capable of preventing color tint in displayed black, while keeping white chromaticity at the desired level.

  • Patent number: 7268842
Abstract: The generation of residues or flakes of a color filter is suppressed to eliminate conduction failures on an LCD substrate having a color filter on an array substrate. A passivation film formed between a pixel electrode formed in each of a plurality of pixel regions and a TFT for driving the pixel electrode has a multi-layer structure constituted by SiN layers and a SiO layers, and the SiO layer is located at the top of the film. A resin CF layer is formed on the passivation film having such a multi-layer structure. Since the resin CF layer is formed directly on the SiO layer, reduction of the adhesion of the same is suppressed. As a result, the color filter is unlikely to come off when the resin CF layer is formed, and residues of the color filter is unlikely to be generated when a contact hole is formed in the resin CF layer. This suppresses conduction failures and makes it possible to provide a reliable TFT substrate and LCD having high display characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20070126973
Abstract: In the liquid crystal display device and the method of manufacturing the same, the pixel electrodes 32 and the projection pattern 35 are formed on the TFT substrate 30 side, and surfaces of the pixel electrodes 32 and the projection pattern 35 are covered with the vertical alignment film 36. Also, the opposing electrode 44 and the projection pattern 45 are formed on the CF substrate 40 side, and surfaces of the opposing electrode 44 and the projection pattern 45 are covered with the vertical alignment film 46. Then, the TFT substrate 30 and the CF substrate 40 are arranged such that top end portions of the projection pattern 45 on the CF substrate 40 are brought into contact with the TFT substrate 30. Then, the liquid crystal 49 having the negative dielectric anisotropy is sealed between them.
