  • Publication number: 20160119064
Abstract: An optical coupling system to couple a collimated beam with a waveguide made of semiconductor materials is disclosed. The waveguide is implemented in an optical modulator and/or an optical hybrid, and has a core with a restricted cross section because of the enhanced refractive index of the semiconductor materials. The collimated beam is focused on the core by the two-lens system including first and second lenses. The first lens, having a focal length shorter than a focal length of the second lens, is first aligned with the core, then, the second lens is aligned with the core as compensating deviations of the first lens induced during the fixation thereof.

  • Publication number: 20150333833
Abstract: A method to produce an optical module, which includes more than one signal lanes each providing a semiconductor laser diode (LD), a first lens, and a second lens, is disclosed. The method first places the first lens in a position at which the optical beam output from the LD becomes a collimated beam, then, slightly shifts so as to be apart from the LD to convert the optical beam into a concentrated beam. The second lens is first placed in a position at which the optical beam from the first lens becomes a collimated beam, then, shifted so as to be apart from the first lens such that the optical output get through the coupling fiber becomes within a preset range.

  • Publication number: 20140215816
Abstract: A method to assemble a transmitter optical module is disclosed, where the optical module installs two lenses, one of which concentrates an optical beam emitted from a laser diode, while, the other collimates the optical beam concentrated by the former lens. The method has a feature that the first lens is firstly positioned in a point to collimate the optical beam coming from the laser diode, then, moved to a point, which is apart from the former point with respect to the laser diode, to concentrate the optical beam. The process performs the steps to position the lens by a jig to extract the optical beam passing through the first lens outside of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20120025210
Abstract: An optical module with a new arrangement is disclosed. The optical module molds devices with a resin transparent to light subject to the device mounted on the lead frame and electrically connected with the lead frame by the bonding wire. The lead frame provides a screen apart from the device by a distance substantially comparable with a dimension of the device. The screen compensates the stress induced in the bonding wire due to a large discrepancy on the thermal expansion coefficient of the transparent resin.

  • Patent number: 7517158
Abstract: The invention provides a method for manufacturing a optical subassembly even when the assembly involves the positional deviation of the components that induces the discrepancy in the direction of the optical output beam from the optical device. The method first determines the position (x1, y1, z1) of the stub where the optical coupling between the stub and the optical device becomes the maximum. Next, the direction of the optical output beam from the optical device is calculated based on the position above, and, finally, the inclined direction of the end surface of the stub is aligned with the direction of the optical output beam evaluated in the previous step.
