  • Publication number: 20150307889
Abstract: Disclosed are methods for transformation of an androgenic-derived, haploid cell line with a site-specific nuclease. In some embodiments, the androgenic-derived, haploid cell line is a maize microspore-derived plant tissue culture. In addition, the disclosure provides a method for modifying, e.g., by mutating or targeting and integrating donor DNA into, a specific locus of a haploid or dihaploid tissue genome. The disclosure further provides methods for regenerating a whole plant from the haploid or dihaploid tissue that contains either the mutation at a specific genomic locus or a donor DNA integrated within a specific genomic locus may be obtained from the subject disclosure.

  • Publication number: 20150271588
Abstract: A method and system for sizing an earpiece include situating a calibration device proximate a user's ear. The user holds an image capture device so as to aim the image capture device at the user's ear. The user then touches and holds a random area of the touch screen display and releases the touch screen display to activate the image capture device and capture an image of the user's ear and the calibration device. The captured image is then analyzed and an earpiece size is determined based on the analysis of the image.

  • Patent number: 9075803
Abstract: An embodiment generally relates to systems and methods for electronically auto-filing and retrieving erasable paper document documents configured for ultraviolet (UV) imaging. A device can embed a machine readable code on an erasable paper document, or can detect a machine readable code preprinted on the document. An electronic version of the erasable paper document along with the machine readable code can be stored in a database. When the machine readable code is later detected on a rendered document, the electronic version corresponding to the machine readable code can be retrieved from storage. The erasable paper document can be re-rendered using the retrieved electronic version either as a new erasable paper document, for display to the user, or other renderings.

  • Patent number: 9045735
Abstract: Methods for enriching, detecting, or using adult stem cells through the use of recognition ligands that specifically bind to ECM components retained to the surfaces of adult stem cells are described. An ECM component such as hyaluronan that is retained to the surfaces of adult stem cells when removed from animal tissues can be used to detect a diverse population of adult stem cells based on the nature of the ECM niche region in which the adult stem cells normally reside. For example, a separation method such as magnetic separation can be used to detect and isolate or enrich adult stem cells based on a recognition ligand that is specific for an ECM component that is retained to the surfaces of adult stem cells to a greater degree than to other cells in the population.

  • Patent number: 9043589
Abstract: One aspect of the invention is a method for providing restricted access to confidential services without impacting the security of a network. The method includes using a gateway to isolate one or more components providing confidential services from one or more other portions of an enterprise network. A first communication directed to a selected one of the one or more components may be received at the gateway. A determination may be made as to whether the first communication is user traffic or management traffic. The first communication may then be authenticated. If the first communication is user traffic, the first communication is forwarded to a component providing the confidential services. If the first communication is management traffic, the first communication is encrypted and forwarded to a component providing the confidential services. Additionally, components of the sub-network may be monitored to identify malicious changes.

  • Patent number: 9024107
Abstract: An absorbent and impermeable seat insert that includes a front edge, a rear edge, and a pair of side edges, each of a pair of side walls erectable along each of the pair of side edges and a rear wall erectable along the rear edge, said seat insert having an impermeable bottom layer disposed underlying an absorbent cardboard layer, and a gelling layer disposed to absorb and retain fluids introduced into the seat insert, wherein a dry weave disposed atop the gelling layer wicks fluids introduced onto the seat insert into the gelling and cardboard layers, where said fluid is retained and prevented from transmission through to an underlying seat by means of the impermeable layer, whereby a particular seat is protected from the inadvertent release of bodily fluids by an incontinent individual or by a child during potty training.

  • Patent number: 8951594
Abstract: Disclosed is a cold-water soluble starch and a process for preparing same. Generally, the process comprises providing a hydroxyalkyl starch and applying a shearing force to the starch in an extruder in the presence of moisture, the force and the moisture each being sufficient to gelatinize at least substantially all of the granules of the starch to thereby form a sheared starch. The starch is heated to its gelatinization temperature after the starch has passed partially through the barrel of the extruder, with the moisture being maintained at a level sufficiently high to allow gelatinization but sufficiency low to protect the starch from becoming too sticky to extrude. The extruded starch product thus formed may be used in connection with a number of film-forming, coating, and other applications.

  • Publication number: 20140351791
Abstract: A configurable software application is provided, where the software application may be designed on a platform including at least one configuration utility for enabling end users to customize various aspects of the application. For example, end users may use the configuration utility to customize one or more user interface elements, event handlers, data handlers, and/or data elements of the application. The software application may be automatically updated to incorporate the user customizations. In one implementation, custom user interface elements may be used to control a navigation of the application or an interaction with data elements of the application. In another implementation, custom data elements, based on a hierarchical metadata structure, may dictate an organization of the application. In another implementation, custom event handlers may control business logic and rules for the application, while custom data handlers may control interfacing with the data elements.
