  • Patent number: 5794080
Abstract: When a power switch is turned on, first and second analog switches are turned on while a third analog switch is turned off. Accordingly, at the time of starting, a forced excitation driving circuit supplies to a vibrator an oscillation output pulse which is substantially at the resonance frequency of the vibrator, thereby forcibly driving the vibrator in an excitation manner. Thereafter, when the vibrator substantially attains its stationary state and thereby the charged voltage of a capacitor reaches a threshold value of an inverter, the first and second analog switches are turned off while the third analog switch is turned on. Accordingly, the output of a self-excitation circuit is supplied to the electrode of the vibrator so as to vibrate the vibrator in a self-excitation manner.

  • Patent number: 5723775
Abstract: An object of the invention is to enable high-speed feedback control by decreasing the mass of a cantilever including an axial driving actuator and eliminate drawbacks caused by the decrease in mass. In a so-called atomic force microscope for observing the surface shape of a sample using a signal corresponding to an interatomic force or the distance between a probe and the sample surface by bringing the probe of a cantilever to the vicinity of the sample surface held by a sample stage and performing two-dimensional scanning with the probe, a piezoelectric film sandwiched between a pair of electrodes is formed on the cantilever, and the piezoelectric film displaces the cantilever in a predetermined direction due to a d.sub.31 inverse piezoelectric effect upon application of a signal voltage to the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5318882
Abstract: Certain types of aryl nitrogen compounds are found to be useful not only for effectively rendering dyes lightfast but also for using as an additive that has high solubility in solvents and sufficiently good miscibility with dyes to insure that their solubility will not be impaired. They can be used for preventing various reactions that cause deterioration by light in organic dyes, in particular cyanine dyes. They can also be used for improving the keeping quality and recording and reproduction characteristics of optical recording media that use organic dyes in the form of thin films. Representative examples include N, N-lower alkyl substituted nitrosoanilines, phenol or naphthol derivatives having at least one nitroso group, nitrosodiphenylamine and its derivatives and 1-pycryl-2, 2-diarylhydrazyl free radicals.
