  • Patent number: 6155666
Abstract: An in ink jet printing method and apparatus are disclosed which prevents mixing of ink with a liquid insolubilizing and/or agglomerating the ink and which can print images having excellent water resistance and high quality. Prevention of mixing of the ink with the liquid is achieved by separately arranging an ink receiver for receiving ink ejected by preliminary ejection and the liquid insolubilizing and/or agglomerating the ink ejected by preliminary ejection, or by setting the distance between the ink jet cartridge for the liquid and the cartridge for ink adjacent thereto is made larger than the distance between two adjacent ink jet cartridges. Alternatively, the direction of ejecting ports of an ink jet ejectors may be deviated.

  • Patent number: 6145960
Abstract: An ink jet recording apparatus which carries out, in a decimated multipass print mode, paper transfer by an extra amount (2.5 .mu.m) beyond a standard paper transfer amount corresponding to a quarter of the total number of nozzles in the nozzle arrangement of a recording head. This can displace dots formed in subsequent scannings from dots formed in previous scannings by amounts of 2.5 .mu.m, 5 .mu.m, 7.5 .mu.m and 10 .mu.m, and reduce the overlap of the dots at boundary regions in the decimated multipass print mode. In a one pass print mode, the paper transfer amount per scanning is set less than the sum total of the four paper transfer amounts of the decimated multipass print mode so that dot overlaps take place as countermeasures against paper transfer errors.

  • Patent number: 6123411
Abstract: An ink-jet recording apparatus ejects droplets of a recording-improvement liquid on a boundary line between two different color portions of an image by using an ink-jet recording head. The ink-jet recording head comprises a group of nozzles for ejecting the recording-improvement liquid which is responsible for precipitating or condensing a coloring substance in the ink. Accordingly, a high-quality image that comprises black-color portion with a high image density without causing any feathering and multiple-color portions without a spread of ink can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6120141
Abstract: An ink jet printing method prints an image on a printing medium by ejecting ink and printabilty improvement liquid containing a substance for improving printablity of the ink to the printing medium. At this time, ejection of the ink and ejection of the printability improvement liquid onto the printing medium are achieved such that the position where the printability improvement liquid is applied and the position where the ink is applied are different from each other, but partially overlap when the ejected printability improvement liquid comes into contact with the ejected ink on the printing medium.

  • Patent number: 6086185
Abstract: When the color printing is performed using a recording head arranged such that number of nozzles for discharging black ink is greater than the number of nozzles for discharging inks of other colors, the use frequency of some nozzles among all the nozzles for discharging the black ink is higher, so that image unevenness may arise when transferred to the black printing. The present invention relates to an ink jet recording method and an ink jet recording apparatus in which the image unevenness often seen in the black printing involving the use of more nozzles than other colors, and the blur of recorded image seen in the image having black images adjacent color images located are reduced.

  • Patent number: 6084604
Abstract: Whether or not a color image is present adjacent to a black image is discriminated. Whether the black image is formed using a black ink or a plurality of color inks C, M, and Y is determined in accordance with the discrimination result. When the black image is formed using the plurality of color inks, it is recorded using a repetitive pattern of two of C, M, and Y so as to prevent blurring with the color image, and to improve fixing characteristics by decreasing the total ejection amount.

  • Patent number: 6076919
Abstract: In a jet recording method, a recording material is placed in a path defined by a nozzle leading to an ejection outlet, and then heated by actuating a heater disposed within the nozzle to generate a bubble within the recording material, thus ejecting a droplet of the recording material out of the ejection outlet under the action of the bubble to be attached onto recording paper. As improvement, the recording material is pre-heated by actuating the heater before the heating for generating the bubble, and the generated bubble is caused to communicate with ambience. As a result, the ejection of the recording material droplet is stabilized without causing splash or mist.

  • Patent number: 6074052
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for ink jet printing use a print head including a first nozzle group for discharging a first ink, a second nozzle group for discharging a second ink and a third nozzle group for discharging a printability improving solution. The third nozzle group is displaced between the first nozzle group and the second nozzle group. The first nozzle group discharges the first ink on the printing medium based on image data to form an image, the third nozzle group discharges the printability improving solution on the image formed on the printing medium by means of another step, and the second nozzle group discharges the second ink on the image formed on the printing medium. The printability improving solution has higher penetrability into the printing medium compared to the ink.The method and apparatus can attain a clear colored, high density image without color mixing, which has high water resistance on plain paper, with a low running cost.

  • Patent number: 6062674
Abstract: When a black image region is printed, the overall pixels in the region is printed by a black ink. Then, a cation type cyan ink which makes a coloring agent in the ink insoluble is printed on the pixels of a predetermined pattern. By this, the dye of the black ink is maintained near the surface of the printing medium to increase density of the black image. At the same time, for preventing variation of tone of the black image, the pixels of the predetermined pattern are printed by a yellow ink.
