  • Patent number: 5084760
Abstract: A plurality of index members movable in a scanning direction of a scanner are arranged at desired positions on a front portion of a platen glass. A black mark is applied on the rear surface of each of the index member and the original as well as the mark are read by an image reader, so that the position of the index member is detected. When the index member is detected as the scanner moves, the image data of the original included in the scanning area scanned by the scanner are not stored in the bit map memory until the next index member is detected. When the scanning is completed, the desired edited images are formed on a paper whose size is determined based on the amount of the stored image data.

  • Patent number: 5032867
Abstract: A scanner starts to move for preliminary scanning and an exposure lamp of the scanner turns on after a prescribed period after the start of the movement of the scanner. When a rear edge of an original of the minimum size placed on a platen is irradiated by the scanning, an amount of irradiation of the exposure lamp attains a prescribed amount since the prescribed period has passed from the turn-on thereof. Accordingly, insufficiency of an irradiation amount of the exposure lamp does not occur at the time of original size detecting operation. Thus, detection operation is speeded up and the first copy speed of the image forming apparatus is improved.

  • Patent number: 5006934
Abstract: When a print switch is pressed, the color of the switch changes from green to orange. A wait indication prohibiting removal of an original placed on a platen glass is turned on. When reading of original images by an image reader is finished, the wait indication is turned off, permitting the removal of the original. Meanwhile, the color of the print switch is kept as it is until the end of image formation on a paper. The color of the print switch is turned into green when the image formation is finished, and the copying machine is returned to a stand-by state. Therefore, the next original can be set before the end of image formation, and the copying operation can be facilitated.

  • Patent number: 4978992
Abstract: When preliminary scanning is started, a reference signal is generated from a reference position sensor and a moving amount of the scanner is measured by counting. Change in intensity of the reflected light from a platen is detected by a first sensor according to movement of the scanner. When the detected intensity attains reference intensity, the moving amount of the scanner is stored. When the detected intensity attains again the reference intensity after it has been lower than the reference intensity, the stored moving amount of the scanner is updated. The time in which the detected intensity attains the reference intensity is measured and when it attains a predetermined time, absence of the original is determined and the scanner stops and returns. The size of the original is determined based on the moving amount of the scanner stored at that time.

  • Patent number: 4952985
Abstract: An electrophotographic copying apparatus in which a speed of scanning system is detected and when the detected speed exceeds a predetermined range till paper feed means feeds a paper to a photosensitive drum after the scanning system starts its operation, the paper is stopped just before the photosensitive drum to repeat scanning again, thereby transient speed fluctuation causes are eliminated and the copying operation is recovered automatically to prevent a poor image forming, and further, the number of the try to scan is counted and, when it exceeds a predetermined number, the paper is discharged as it is in blank to save trouble of removing the paper, and also driving torque of the scanning system is detected to warn when it exceeds a predetermined range and thereby warn the user's overload on an original table to prevent a poor image forming.

  • Patent number: 4839693
Abstract: A copying apparatus of this invention is of a moving document table type, wherein the document table moving speed after completion of scanning for a copying operation is designed to be controlled to a predetermined speed slower than the predetermined returning speed, if the document table moving speed does not increase above a predetermined returning speed. Accordingly the document table moves stably without stopping even if the document table returning speed decreases due to heavy books or other loads being placed on the document table.
