  • Patent number: 5782525
Abstract: A side body structure of a motor vehicle includes a first and second crash boxes at the connecting portion of a side sill and a rear wheel arch. The first crash box is provided outside of a side sill reinforcement and the second crash box is inside the side sill reinforcement. The second crash box is connected with a cross member extended in a transversal direction of the vehicle. In the event of a side impact, first the first crash box collapses and then the second crash box does. Finally, the impact energy is transferred to and absorbed by other body structures through the cross member. The side sill portion and the rear wheel arch portion can be prevented from intruding into a rear compartment so as to save passengers from serious injury.

  • Patent number: 5671968
Abstract: A motor vehicle having a continuous closed cross sectional structure therearound. The vehicle includes a center pillar and a side sill, both of which are connected with a doubler extended transversely. A center roof brace is connected with the upper end of the center pillar through a joint member. The outside end of the doubler is connected with the center pillar in such a manner that it laps the lower end of the center pillar. Further, the doubler is connected with a center tunnel which is reinforced from underneath. The center pillar, the doubler and the center roof brace have a closed cross section respectively. The center pillar includes a strength discontinuity portion at the lower portion thereof. In the event of a side impact, the center pillar yields toward the inside direction of the vehicle at the strength discontinuity portion without bending the upper portion thereof and the amount of deformation of the center pillar is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5611568
Abstract: A front frame structure of a cab over type vehicle comprises a side member provided in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle, an aluminum-made frame section connected with the front end of the side member, a front cross member connected with the front end of the frame section, a front bumper provided adjacent to the he front cross member, and an aluminum foam inserted in the frame section. When a head-on impact is applied to the vehicle body, an impact energy is transmitted to the aluminum-made frame section through the bumper and the front cross member and the frame section is subjected to a buckling deformation together with the aluminum foam contained therein. The impact energy can be effectively absorbed within a small crush space of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5573299
Abstract: A module carrier structure for the vehicle front end includes a horizontal upper frame portion and a horizontal middle frame portion that constitute a radiator assembly frame. The middle frame portion simply rests on a rear bumper beam of a front bumper when the carrier structure is fastened to the front of the vehicle body. The middle frame portion has in its forward surface a groove for accommodating a wire harness whereby the wire harness is protected from heat damage by the radiator and condenser in the engine compartment. The wire harness is free from damage due to a light collision of the vehicle because the bumper beam can slide relative to the middle frame portion. The harness groove may be provided in an attachment below the middle frame portion.

  • Patent number: 5533324
Abstract: A method for loading a liquid into a container made of a resin comprises the steps of holding a portion of a bag, which is made of a resin film and which is provided with an opening, the portion surrounding the opening, and thereby suspending the bag in a case housing, which is to accommodate the bag therein. A predetermined amount of a liquid is poured through the opening into the bag, which is being suspended in the case housing, and thereafter the opening is closed. After the liquid has been poured into the bag, but before the opening is closed, the case housing is moved up, and the bag is thereby pushed up a predetermined distance, an appropriate amount of air being thus introduced into the bag having been loaded with the liquid. Worsening of the orientation or form of the bag and scratching or flawing of the bag are thus prevented from occurring due to vibrations given to the bag during its transportation, or the like.

  • Patent number: 5482533
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming a foamed aluminum article. A foaming vessel is used including a peripheral wall and a plurality of vertical rod members to form mounting holes at given positions in the vicinity of the inside surface of the peripheral wall. The melt of aluminum or its alloy is stirred with a viscosity increaser and a foaming material. The solidified aluminum block is then sliced to a given thickness to obtain a product of foamed aluminum having mounting holes in given positions in the vicinity of the outer edge thereof. A hard portion around the holes is used as the surface site for mounting the product. The products are used for sound and heat insulation.

  • Patent number: 5409288
Abstract: A module carrier structure for the vehicle front includes an upper horizontal frame portion and a lower horizontal frame portion that constitute a radiator mounting central frame. The carrier structure further includes a middle horizontal frame portion extending in front of the central frame such that the middle horizontal frame portion simply rests on a rear beam member of a front bumper when the carrier structure is fastened to the front of the vehicle body. The carrier structure has a central vertical stay portion extending in front of the central frame, coupling the upper and middle horizontal frame portions to each other. The stay portion has at the top thereof a hood lock mounting member for mounting a hood lock thereon. Downward load of the front hood applied to the lock mounting member is transmitted to the vertical stay portion and distributed to the middle horizontal frame position.
