  • Patent number: 5949390
Abstract: A three-dimensional display apparatus includes a liquid crystal panel 1 for displaying a discrete Fourier transformed image and a slit panel 2 having a convex lens function in a horizontal direction and a plurality of slits 3 arranged in a zig-zag manner, which is disposed in front of the liquid crystal panel 1. Since a spatial image is generated by such a configuration, a wide viewing region can be obtained. Since the number of slits positioned in the horizontal direction is increased as that of a slit pattern of a conventional slit array, the deterioration of resolution in the horizontal direction is reduced. Furthermore, since the slits are arranged in a zig-zag manner, the area of each light-shielding portion between sampling positions is reduced, thereby preventing an optical means from obstructing the observation of images.

  • Patent number: 5923512
Abstract: A fault tolerant circuit arrangement comprises a plurality of replicated non-redundant shift registers 30 connected in parallel and each having an enable/configuration input 31 and a plurality of outputs 36. Furthermore each register 30 includes a verify output 32 for outputting a verify signal indicating whether or not a fault condition is present within the register. The arrangement also includes a verification signal generator 33 for applying a fixed reference signal, a comparator 34 to which the verify signals from the outputs 32 are applied, and a control circuit 35. The test/control-logic of the comparator 34 and control circuit 35 is constructed using masking redundancy 20-24 in order to render the test/control logic tolerant to faults. The control circuit 35 serves to control testing of each of the registers 30 in turn by supplying an enable signal to the input 31 of each register 30 beginning with the first register. This causes the supply of a verify signal V.sub.

  • Patent number: 5914181
Abstract: A coated cemented carbide member includes a cemented carbide base material containing a binder metal of at least one iron family metal and a hard phase, and a coating layer provided on the surface of the cemented carbide base material. The hard phase contains at least one metal component selected from carbides, nitrides, carbo-nitrides and carbonic nitrides of Zr and/or Hf and WC. A layer consisting of only WC and an, iron family metal or a binder phase enriched layer or a low hardness layer is provided on an outermost surface of each insert edge portion of the cemented carbide base material. The coating layer is a single or multiple layer consisting of at least one metal component selected from carbides, nitrides, carbo-nitrides, oxides and borides of metals belonging to the groups IVB, VB and VIB of the periodic table. Due to this structure, it is possible to improve chipping resistance with no deterioration of wear resistance in the coated cemented carbide member to be used, for example, as a cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 5776588
Abstract: An improved coated hard alloy tool having a substrate made of a hard alloy, and a multi-layer ceramic coating film provided on the surface of the substrate, the coating film including at least one oxide layer. The top several layers of the coating film are missing partially or completely in an area where the tool is brought into frictional contact with a workpiece. At least one oxide layer (such as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 layer) is included in the missing layers. This increases wear resistance of the coated hard alloy tool.

  • Patent number: 5681496
Abstract: A sensor based automated cooking apparatus is provided. A humidity sensor measures the moisture content within a cooking cavity. An output of the sensor is provided to a digital filter to remove noise therefrom before being passed to a feature extractor which performs a data compression step and extracts salient features relating to the shape of the humidity versus time characteristic. The parameters are analyzed by a neural network to estimate a degree of doneness of the food. A controller uses the degree of doneness to estimate the remaining cooking time and appropriate power level. The cooking apparatus then operates in an open loop mode for the remainder of the cooking time using the appropriate power level.

  • Patent number: 5603071
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing a cemented carbide or a cermet alloy by mixing and kneading cemented carbide powder or cermet alloy powder with an organic binder, shaping this mixed powder into a prescribed configuration by an injection molding method and thereafter removing the organic binder from this compact and sintering the same, in order to obtain a dense alloy. Removal of the organic binder is performed in a first step in an inert gas atmosphere as a first removal step, and then continued in a second step in a vacuum of not more than 1 Torr. In the first removal step, the pressure is held in excess of the atmospheric pressure, to prevent the formation of imperfections in the compact. After continuous pores are formed in the interior of the compact, the atmosphere pressure is brought close to a vacuum, thereby facilitating the evaporation of gas from the surface and desorption of gas generated in the interior of the compact.
