  • Patent number: 7256850
Abstract: The object of the invention is to obtain a high contrast ratio and a better aperture ratio. The invention relates to a reflective liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal layer (3); a front base layer (5) and a rear base layer (1) which are located on both main surface sides of the liquid crystal layer; a transparent common electrode (4) supported by the front base layer (5); and a composite layer (2) supported by the rear base layer (1), which has a function of reflecting external light from a side of the front base layer (5) and a function of driving pixels, the composite layer (2) including electrically conductive bus-lines (22?) which are arranged in matrix and are able to apply voltages for driving the pixels. The device is characterized in that the bus-lines (22?) are formed from a material having a substantially low optical reflectivity.

  • Patent number: 7123321
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a color filter and a liquid crystal display device using the filter, which can obtain well-balanced color purities within a pixel. A color filter for coloring a first light ray L1 having a unidirectional optical path and a second light ray L2 having a bidirectional optical path for each pixel. The color filter includes a first area portion 10t in which the first light ray L1 is caused to be transmitted and a second area portion 10r in which the second light ray L2 is caused to be transmitted, for each pixel. The first area portion 10t and the second area portion 10r respectively have structures by which different coloring effects are exerted if light rays having the same optical path and the same property pass through them.

  • Publication number: 20060145951
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide electrostatic discharge damage protection during manufacturing and to suppress power consumption as low as possible during ordinary use of the electronic device having been manufactured, with avoidance of the problem of electric corrosion. An electronic device 10 comprising an array of pixels 12 wherein row and column address lines 18, 20 for addressing each pixel 12 are arranged. Each address line is connected to a discharge line 30, 32 through a discharge circuit 38. The circuit allows the passage of charge between the address line and the first discharge line 30 when the address line is at a potential below that of the first discharge line, and allows the passage of charge between the address line and the second discharge line 32 when the address line is at a potential above that of the second discharge line.

  • Publication number: 20060146239
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a pixel electrode and a liquid crystal display device using it, which can reduce improper reflected light. A pixel electrode 1 for applying a voltage for each pixel. This pixel electrode comprises: a reflective area portion 1r reflecting a light ray from a display screen side in such a manner that the light ray is along a predetermined bidirectional optical path within a pixel; a transmissive area portion 1t transmitting a light ray from a rear side to the display screen side in such a manner that the light ray is along a predetermined unidirectional optical path within the pixel; and a transition area portion 1TR being formed between the reflective area portion 1r and the transmissive area portion 1t and including a portion 4c in which the reflective area portion 1r and the transmissive area portion 1t are coupled. The transition area portion 1TR is extended with an at least partly rounded shape on a plan view.
