  • Patent number: 5172978
Abstract: A radiant thermometer for detecting infrared rays coming from an object along an optical axis to determine its temperature is provided with an improved aiming system. An exterior housing supports an interior housing that mounts the detector having an opening for receiving the infrared rays. A visible sighting light source is provided in the exterior housing behind the detector. A peripheral lens system is mounted between the interior and the exterior housing to provide a cone shaped transmission of light having a larger field angle than a field angle of the detector. The cone shaped transmission of light is capable of being focused on the optical axis for aiming the radiant thermometer.
