Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) device having a substantially conformal wavelength-converting layer for producing uniform white light and a method of making said LED at both the wafer and individual die levels are provided. The LED device includes a metal substrate, a p-type semiconductor coupled to the metal substrate, an active region coupled to the p-type semiconductor, an n-type semiconductor coupled to the active region, and a wavelength converting layer coupled to the n-type semiconductor.

Abstract: A bone fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and having a first state in which at least a portion of the body is flexible and a second state in which the body is generally rigid, an actuateable gripper disposed at a distal location on the elongated body, a hub located on a proximal end of the elongated body, and an actuator operably connected to the gripper to deploy the gripper from a retracted configuration to an expanded configuration. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprises inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy at least one gripper of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone.

Abstract: A luminaire has a shell housing with an upper shell section and a lower shell section that form an interior cavity and at least one side opening through which an observer can see into the interior cavity of the shell housing from a position below the luminaire when the luminaire is positioned overhead the observer. The interior cavity has a lower region which is hidden from the direct line-of-sight of an observer below the luminaire. At least one and suitably a plurality non-revealed upwardly facing area light sources, such as OLEDs, are supported on the lower shell section of the shell housing and disposed in the lower region of the interior cavity thereof so as to produce light within the interior cavity and so as to be hidden from the direct line-of-sight of an observer below the luminaire.

Abstract: A non-volatile memory device has individual pages of memory cells to be sensed in parallel. The memory device includes a source level tracking circuit coupled to receive a predetermined word line voltage from a word line voltage supply and the voltage level at the aggregate source node of one or more pages and coupled to provide to word lines of the memory an output voltage during the sensing operation, where the source level tracking circuit includes an op amp whereby the output voltage is the word line voltage offset by an amount to track the voltage level at the aggregate node and compensate for source bias errors due to a finite resistance in the ground loop.

Abstract: Prior to deposition of a silicon nitride (SiN) layer on a structure, a non-plasma enhanced operation is undertaken wherein the structure is exposed to silane (SiH4) flow, reducing the overall exposure of the structure to hydrogen radicals. This results in the silicon nitride being strongly bonded to the structure and in improved performance.

Abstract: An image sensor pixel that includes a photoelectric conversion unit supported by a substrate and an insulator adjacent to the substrate. The pixel includes a light guide that is located within an opening of the insulator and extends above the insulator such that a portion of the light guide has an air interface. The air interface improves the internal reflection of the light guide. Additionally, the light guide and an adjacent color filter are constructed with a process that optimizes the upper aperture of the light guide. These characteristics of the light guide eliminate the need for a microlens.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for suggesting and inserting automated assistants in a graphical user interface for managing communication sessions. A system for suggesting an automated assistant generates a first vector describing a current context of a current communication session, and generates a comparison of the first vector and a second vector associated with a past context of an automated assistant in a past communication session. Then, if the comparison exceeds a similarity threshold, the system suggests the automated assistant to at least one user in the current communication session. Optionally, the system can predictively insert the automated assistant in a communication session if the comparison exceeds a similarity threshold. The graphical user interface for managing communication sessions displays automated assistants in a same manner as human participants.

Abstract: Described herein are methods, compositions and articles of manufacture involving neutral conjugated polymers including methods for synthesis of neutral conjugated water-soluble polymers with linkers along the polymer main chain structure and terminal end capping units. Such polymers may serve in the fabrication of novel optoelectronic devices and in the development of highly efficient biosensors. The invention further relates to the application of these polymers in assay methods.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for generating persistent sessions in a graphical user interface for managing communication sessions. A system configured to practice the method tracks interactions of a user with an automated assistant in a communication session displayed in a graphical user interface for managing communication sessions, wherein the graphical user interface displays automated assistants in a same manner as human participants. The system identifies work product produced by the interactions, associates the work product with the user, and saves the work product in a persistent communication session. The system can load work product by identifying a user in the current communication session and a current context. The system retrieves and restores the stored work product in the current communication session. The stored work product can include at least one setting associated with an automated assistant.

Abstract: Methods of manufacturing a direct current (DC) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) configured as an intrinsic power transfer switch are provided. One method includes providing multiple inputs, multiple rectifiers coupled to the inputs, a common node coupled to the rectifiers, and at least one DC output coupled to the common node. The DC output(s) is/are adapted for connection to at least one electrical load and a first input is adapted for connection to a first electrical service. A second input is adapted for connection to a second electrical service, the DC UPS continuing to supply power to the at least one electrical load in the event of a loss of either the first or second electrical services. Also provided are methods of manufacturing an intrinsic power transfer switch for a high-power electrical load requiring at least two electrical service inputs.

Abstract: Semiconductor structures and methods of making a vertical diode structure are provided. The vertical diode structure may have associated therewith a diode opening extending through an insulation layer and contacting an active region on a silicon wafer. A titanium silicide layer may be formed over the interior surface of the diode opening and contacting the active region. The diode opening may initially be filled with an amorphous silicon plug that is doped during deposition and subsequently recrystallized to form large grain polysilicon. The silicon plug has a top portion that may be heavily doped with a first type dopant and a bottom portion that may be lightly doped with a second type dopant. The top portion may be bounded by the bottom portion so as not to contact the titanium silicide layer. In one embodiment of the vertical diode structure, a programmable resistor contacts the top portion of the silicon plug and a metal line contacts the programmable resistor.

Abstract: A stroller system includes a stroller frame and a seat system. The stroller frame includes first and second frame supports spaced apart from each other, at least one third frame support attaching the first frame support to the second frame support, and wheels rotatably attached to one or more of the frame supports. The seat system is removably attached to the stroller frame and includes a seat support having first and second end portions, and first and second end connectors disposed on the corresponding first and second end portions of the seat support. Each end connector includes a connector body having first and second end portions, where each end portion defines a recess configured to receive one of the frame supports. The recesses arranged substantially in opposition to engage the received support in substantially opposing directions.

Abstract: A proton exchange membrane fuel cell comprises a membrane formed from a fluorocarbon ionic polymer material capable of being bonded to an acrylic, preferably a polymethylmethacrylate polymer, and at least one desirably electrically conductive plate bonded to an area of a face of the membrane via an acrylic plastic material. The bond may be accomplished by positioning a layer of the acrylic plastic material between a surface of the plate and an area of a face of the membrane. Alternatively, the plate may be constructed of the acrylic plastic material and a surface thereof may be bonded directly to an area of a face of the membrane.

Abstract: A circuit for dynamically increasing the drop-out voltage of an electromechanical automatic transfer switch (ATS) into a brownout voltage range is provided. The automatic transfer switch includes a first input, a first coil connected to the first input, and a first, normally-open auxiliary contact in magnetic communication with the first coil. The circuit includes a first resistor adapted to connect to the first, normally-open auxiliary contact, and a first transformer having a primary winding connected to the first resistor, and a secondary winding adapted to connect to the first coil. An operating voltage across the first coil is reduced a proportional amount by a secondary voltage across the secondary winding when the first, normally-open auxiliary contact is closed.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments adapted to distribute power from four input lines to a plurality of power supply units (PSUs) configured in an N+1 architecture are provided. In one such embodiment, a plurality of rectifier devices have first and second ends, each of the plurality of rectifier devices connected at the first end to one of the four input lines, and adapted to be bypassed by a first relay in a first operating mode and provide rectified input current in a second operating mode. A plurality of second relays is connected between each of the second ends of the plurality of rectifier devices. The plurality of second relays are adapted to be closed in the second operating mode to sum the rectified input current from each of the plurality of rectifier devices in a single node connecting each of the plurality of PSUs.

Abstract: The cartridge can include a mixing component for mixing different solutions so as to form a product solution. A mixture of different solutions can be transported into the mixing component where they combine to form a product solution. The mixing component includes a plurality of variable volume reservoirs in liquid communication with one another. The product solution can be repeatedly transported from one of the variable volume reservoirs to another of the variable volume reservoirs until the desired degree of mixing is achieved. Once the desired degree of mixing is achieved, the product solution can be transported directly to a product chamber within the cartridge or can be treated further before being transported to the product chamber.
