  • Patent number: 5316322
Abstract: A metal plate for a gasket is provided with a plurality of beads around portions to be sealed. The beads intersect together to form an intersecting portion, which has an outer edge to surround the intersecting portion, a center portion in the center thereof, and a surrounding portion situated between the center portion and the outer edge. A cutting portion penetrating through the plate is formed at the center portion. When the metal plate is tightened, the cutting portion operates to disperse stress applied to the center portion of the intersecting portion. Therefore, equal surface pressure is formed on the intersecting portion as well as the beads.

  • Patent number: 5306023
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket of the invention is formed of a main plate extending substantially throughout the entire area of the gasket, sealing devices formed around the cylinder bores, and at least one auxiliary plate laminated over the main plate. The auxiliary plate is situated at least in an intermediate area of the main plate surrounded between the two adjacent holes corresponding to the cylinder bores. The auxiliary plate includes two edge portions extending at least partly along the cylinder bores adjacent the intermediate area, a base portion between the two edge portions, and two turning portions laminated over the respective edge portions. When the gasket is tightened, the edge portions and the turning portions provide high surface pressure around the cylinder bores. Accordingly, leakage of gas at the intermediate area is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5306024
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is designed to reduce heat transfer between two engine parts. The gasket is formed of at least two plates having holes to be sealed and bolt holes, a sealing device formed around the hole to be sealed, and a space forming device formed on at least one of the plates to separate the plates apart. Spacers are formed around the bolt holes so that bolts can be tightened up to a predetermined thickness. When the gasket is tightened, the sealing device is compressed to seal around the hole, but the two meal plates do not closely abut against each other by means of the space forming device. Accordingly, heat is partly radiated through the gasket, and heat transmission between the engine parts is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5272808
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket prepared by a method of the invention is installed between a cylinder head and a cylinder block. In the method, a plate is prepared at first to have at least one hole smaller than a hole of the engine to be sealed. The first plate is bent around the first hole so that the first plate is provided with a curved portion defining a hole corresponding to the hole of the engine, a flange extending away from the curved portion, and a space around the curved portion. The curved portion is compressed to eliminate the space to thereby form a solid portion by the flange and an annular portion. A second plate having a hole larger than the flange is prepared and is assembled with the first plate. The second plate is located at a side opposite to the flange of the first plate. The second plate does not laminate the flange of the first plate.

  • Patent number: 5259629
Abstract: The steel laminate gasket is installed between two engine parts. One of the engine parts is provided with at least two positioning pins for setting a location of the gasket. The gasket comprises at least first and second plates. The first plate includes at least first and second holes formed at portions corresponding to the positioning pins, and a plurality of slits formed at an inner portion around the first hole. The diameter of the first hole is at least partly smaller than the diameter of the positioning pin. The second plate is situated above the first plate and is connected thereto. The second plate includes third and fourth holes corresponding to the first and second holes, respectively. The third hole is larger than the first hole. When the gasket is pushed over the positioning pins, the inner portion around the first hole bends and engages the positioning pin to securely connect the gasket to the engine block.

  • Patent number: 5221097
Abstract: A sealing system is associated with an engine having two engine parts to be sealed, and includes a gasket situated between the engine parts. The engine parts include at least one annular groove around a hole to be sealed, and the gasket includes a bead extending outwardly from the gasket around the hole. The size o the bead is greater than that of the annular groove. When the gasket is tightened between the engine parts, the bead is compressed inside the groove and deforms to securely seal between the gasket and the engine parts. As a result, even if the engine part is slightly moved, the gasket can securely seal between the engine parts.

  • Patent number: 5205569
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one hole therein. The gasket comprises a first metal plate, a second metal plate situated under the first metal plate, and a thin graphite layer attached to the second plate to face outwardly. The first plate includes a curved portion to define a first hole corresponding to the hole of the engine, and a flange around the first hole. The second plate has a second hole larger than the flange, so that when the first and second plates are assembled, the second plate does not pile the flange. The graphite layer fills dents or small scratches on an engine part when the gasket is installed in the engine.

  • Patent number: 5199723
Abstract: A steel laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one fluid hole therein. The gasket includes a plurality of plates for constituting the steel laminate gasket having at least one hole corresponding to the fluid hole of the engine, and a sealing device to seal around the fluid hole of the engine. A supporting device integrally formed on one of the plates is situated between a gasket edge portion and a part of the sealing device facing the gasket edge portion. Consequently, when the engine is operated, vibration of the gasket at the gasket edge portion is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5170927
Abstract: A metal plate for a gasket is provided with a plurality of beads around portions to be sealed. The beads intersect with each other to form an intersecting portion, which has a central portion, an outer portion outside the central upper portion and at least three side portion extending between side edges of the beads adjacent to each other. At least two side portions are curved to orient toward the intersecting portion and are located on or inside a part of an imaginary circular line. A radius of the imaginary circular line is at least twice as much as the width of the bead. Therefore, when the metal plate is tightened, the central portion is at first compressed to support the outer portion outside the central portion to thereby provide surface pressure substantially the same as that on the bead outside the intersecting portion.

  • Patent number: 5169163
Abstract: The gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having a hole to be sealed. The gasket is formed of first and second outer plates, and a middle member situated between the outer plates. A main sealing member formed of a wire ring is situated between a base portion of the first outer plate and the second outer plate around a curved portion of the first outer plate to define the hole of the engine. An auxiliary sealing member having a thickness less than that of the main sealing member is situated between the curved portion and the main sealing member. When the gasket is tightened, the main sealing member is compressed up to the thickness of the auxiliary sealing member to provide moderate surface pressure by the auxiliary sealing member near the hole and high surface pressure by the main sealing member away from the hole to be sealed. The surface pressure of sealing portions can be easily controlled.
