  • Patent number: 5154529
Abstract: A positioning pin of the invention is attached to an engine part for installing a gasket thereon. The positioning pin includes a body having a projection extending outwardly from the engine part. The projection includes at least one large diameter portion, and a small diameter portion about the body. When the gasket is accidentally moved on the engine part to slip out of the positioning pin, the gasket engages the small diameter portion or is blocked by the large diameter portion to prevent accidental disengagement of the gasket from the engine part.

  • Patent number: 5120078
Abstract: A steel laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one hole to be sealed. The gasket comprises first and second plates, at least one middle plate situated between the first and second plates, and a cover member situated outside the hole of the engine to surround the same. A ring member is situated adjacent to the cover member. At least one protecting plate is placed over the ring member and at least a part of the middle plate. The protecting plate is made of a material harder than the ring member. Therefore, when the gasket is tightened, the gasket and the engine blocks do not deform, and wide and strong sealing pressure is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5092613
Abstract: A steel laminate gasket of the invention is designed to be installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one hole to be sealed. The gasket comprises first and third plates having beads around the hole, and a second plate situated between the first and third plates. The second plate does not extend adjacent to the hole. When the gasket is assembled, edge portions of the first and third plates directly face against each other, but the second plate terminates at a portion between or outside the beads. The gasket may provide moderate surface pressure at a portion slightly away from the hole to be sealed to prevent deformation of the engine parts. High surface pressure may be formed near the hole to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 5062649
Abstract: A steel laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine. The gasket basically comprises a first plate, a third plate, and a second plate situated between the first and third plates. The first plate includes a base portion extending substantially the entire area of the gasket and located adjacent to the second plate. The first plate further includes a curved portion to define a hole of the engine, and a flange at the side of the base portion. A side wall is formed on the base portion or the flange spaced from the curved portion, so that an embossed portion is defined by the side wall and the curved portion. The third plate includes a flat solid portion situated under the embossed portion. When the gasket is tightened, the solid portion receives and supports tightening pressure to seal around the hole, and the side wall forms a secondary seal therearound.
