  • Patent number: 4684849
Abstract: A method of driving a gas discharge display panel having first and second arrays of parallel conductors disposed in spaced relationship on opposite sides of a gas filled panel and oriented at transverse angles to each other, the electrodes of each array being insulated from direct contact with the gas by a corresponding layer of dielectric material. Coordinate intersections of the electrodes of the two arrays define corresponding individual discharge sites.

  • Patent number: 4638218
Abstract: A monolithic gas discharge display panel includes a plurality of pairs of sustaining electrodes provided on a first substrate, a plurality of write electrodes separated from the pairs of sustaining electrodes by a dielectric layer and arranged to intersect the sustaining electrodes, and an insulating layer provided on the write electrodes and the dielectric layer for providing a leakage current from the insulating layer to the write electrodes. A second substrate spaced from and in parallel relation to the first substrate forms a gap between the insulating layer and the second substrate, the gap being filled with a discharge gas.

  • Patent number: 4423356
Abstract: An AC memory driving type self-shift type gas discharge panel prevents accidental abnormal discharges caused by deviated abnormal charges. Abnormal charges are significantly accumulated at both ends of a shift channel consisting of a regular arrangement of a write discharge cell and shift discharge cells. Therefore, conductive layers are provided adjacent to at least both ends of the shift channel in order to dissipate the abormal charges.

  • Patent number: 4370599
Abstract: An AC memory drive type self-shift type gas discharge panel which can prevent an accidental erroneous discharge caused by distributed abnormal charges. Abnormal charges may accumulate to a significant extent at the ends of the shift channels having write discharge cells and shift discharge cells regularly arranged. A path for leaking the abnormal charges is provided in the dielectric layer covering the electrode defining the discharge cells at the end of the shift channels.

  • Patent number: 4359663
Abstract: An AC plasma display panel with a coated thin film dielectric layer on the electrodes has a structure which includes double layers of chromium (Cr) and copper (Cu). After three metal layers of chromium, copper, and chromium are formed on a glass substrate, these three metal layers are subjected to patterning with the desired electrode pattern in such a fashion as to eliminate the upper chromium layer. Then, a thin dielectric film of alumina (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3) is evaporated onto the two remaining metal layers forming the electrodes. This combination of two layer metal electrodes and dielectric layer is very useful in providing a self-shifting plasma display panel having high quality and reliability.

  • Patent number: 4249104
Abstract: A self shift type gas discharge panel in which pluralities of buses are respectively provided on a pair of substrates disposed opposite each other, electrodes are respectively connected to the buses and shift channels are set up in row and column directions with arrays of discharge points formed between the opposed electrodes of the substrates to enable shifting of a discharge spot in the row or column direction. On the substrates, the electrodes and the buses are so arranged as not to intersect each other, which allows ease in the manufacture of the discharge panel and ensures stable shifting of the discharge spot.

  • Patent number: 4198585
Abstract: The gas discharge panel described here is an AC plasma display panel with electrodes arranged on a substrate, and the electrodes and substrate are coated with a dielectric layer for insulation from the gas filled discharge space, with an improvement in the dielectric layer surface. The improvement being an overcoat layer of at least two alkaline earth compounds, especially CaO and SrO, provided on the dielectric layer surface of this display panel. This overcoat layer significantly lowers the operating voltages of the panel.
