  • Patent number: 5492518
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes an upright column, with a translating shuttle assembly secured within a slot in the column. An adjustable seat is supported by the shuttle assembly. A collar is secured to the upper end of the shuttle assembly, and circumscribes the column assembly in freely translating fashion. A first pivot shaft is joined to the collar to secure one end of a main drive link in freely pivoting fashion. A handle pivot shaft secures a pair of handle members to a second pivot shaft atop the column assembly. A first mounting pin is adapted to releasably secure the other end of the main drive link to the handles at selectively variable distances from the first pivot shaft. Movement of the handles urges the main drive link upwardly to lift the shuttle assembly and the weight of the user. A leg exercise assembly includes a pair of leg struts joined in parallel spaced apart disposition to opposed ends of a third pivot shaft supported on the column.

  • Patent number: 5372559
Abstract: A support system for use in adjusting the incline of exercising equipment such as treadmills is disclosed. The system includes a pair of linked support legs pivotally mounted to one end of the equipment's frame. A length-adjustable gas spring is pivotedly associated with the linked support legs and the treadmill. Control means are provided to adjust the orientation of the spring, thereby controlling the elevation of the exercising equipment and hence its incline.

  • Patent number: 5158067
Abstract: A portable fluid fueled food cooker has a fuel burner housing which can support and stabilize a wok of the kind having a rounded bottom. In the preferred form, the housing has an annular sidewall encircling a combustion chamber and an apertured inner sleeve having an upper edge that is of smaller diameter than the sidewall and which forms an open centered circular lip proportioned to receive and seat the rounded bottom of the wok. The housing attaches to a post and the post attaches to a base platform having an indentation shaped to receive and seat a pressurized fluid fuel tank. The tank is retained by a clamp arm extending from the post. The housing, post and base are preferably disengagable from each other to facilitate carrying and storage of the cooking apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5058881
Abstract: An apparatus for elevating an object to a selectable preset height, which comprises the use of a set of feet mounted off-center on an axle. The feet may be rotated to provide a set of unique, selectable preset heights, and is particularly useful for changing the slope of a treadmill type exercise machine.

  • Patent number: 5029801
Abstract: An incline adjustment mechanism for use with exercise apparatus such as treadmills is disclosed. The mechanism includes a support or foot assembly rotatably mounted to the bottom surface of the treadmill frame. One or more springs are interposed between the treadmill frame and the support assembly for urging them outwardly from each other. A perforated strip mounted on the support assembly extends upwardly into proximity of the frame. A displaceable plunger shaft configured to be received within the apertures of the strip and form a union with that strip is mounted on the frame. The plunger is adapted to engage the strip and form a union therewith, thereby locking the support in an orientation which supports the treadmill at a selected orientation.

  • Patent number: 4918266
Abstract: An exercise machine has an electrical safety switch which switch includes a base with a switch actuator attached thereto. A paddle is rotatably attached to the base for movement toward and away from the actuator. The paddle has an upper element and a lower element to form a void therebetween. The lower element as an aperture through which the actuator passes when the paddle is depressed. Placement of an enabling card in the void obstructs the aperture and enables operation of the actuator between "on" and "off" positions by depression of the paddle. Removal of the enabling card prevents accidental actuation of the machine.
