  • Publication number: 20160109581
Abstract: A system and method for position determination using low earth orbit satellites. A mobile terminal affixed to an asset initiates a collection of global positioning system satellite measurements (e.g., code phase) based on a hardware trigger generated by a low earth orbit satellite modem. Timing information reflective of the time of the hardware trigger pulse is transmitted to an operations center along with the global positioning system satellite measurements to enable the operations center to determine a position of the mobile terminal.

  • Publication number: 20150015275
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for monitoring a condition of a structure using a passive wireless antenna sensor having a known resonant frequency when mounted on the structure. A signal is transmitted with sweeping frequencies around a known resonant frequency to the passive wireless antenna sensor. A signal is received from the passive wireless antenna sensor and a resonant frequency of the passive wireless antenna sensor is determined based on the received signal. The determined resonant frequency is then compared to the known resonant frequency, whereby a change in the resonant frequency indicates a change in the condition of the structure.

  • Publication number: 20140366703
Abstract: A musical instrument includes a resonating pipe having a first slot defined along a length of a longitudinal axis of the resonating pipe and a sliding rod that slides along a length of the first slot and closes the first slot such that the sliding rod selectively covers and provides an air seal to the first slot, such that a pitch of sound produced varies according to a length of closure of the first slot. A mouthpiece is coupled to the resonating pipe to enable the player to create a resonating column of air in the resonating pipe and control the pitch of the instrument by controlling the coverage of the sliding rod over the first slot. A composite musical instrument may include the wind instrument combined with a stringed instrument.

  • Patent number: 8868355
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for monitoring a condition of a structure using a passive wireless antenna sensor having a known resonant frequency when mounted on the structure. A series of radio frequency signals are transmitted with sweeping frequencies around the known resonant frequency to the passive wireless antenna sensor. The passive wireless antenna sensor includes a dielectric substrate disposed between an antenna pattern and a ground plane such that a change in the condition of the structure will cause a change in one or more characteristics of the passive wireless sensor. A signal is received from the passive wireless antenna sensor and a resonant frequency of the passive wireless antenna sensor is determined based on the received signal. The determined resonant frequency is then compared to the known resonant frequency, whereby a change in the resonant frequency indicates a change in the condition of the structure.

  • Publication number: 20140031511
Abstract: A continuous polymerization process where one or more stirred vessels (intermittent reactor vessels) are employed in oligomer transfer line for mixing additives. An additive is added in the stirred vessel either as a solution or as slurry. The additive may or may not be reactive with the other monomer of the polyester molecule. The additive reacts with the monomer and incorporates in the polymer backbone in one of the embodiment. One or more further additives are mixed with the pre-reactor monomer mix and are charged in the first reactor or charged through the stirred vessel in the form of single slurry or solution or multiple slurries or solutions. Any further vessels employed provide higher residence time proportionate to output and use of such vessels in reactor system is independent of the any further additives.

  • Patent number: 8498921
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a brokerage commission owed by a client of a brokerage firm based on the principal volume (“PV”) of the client's eligible transactions over a time period. The system may comprise: (i) a database storing information about the client's transactions; and (ii) one or more processors in communication with the database. The processor(s) is programmed to determine the client's brokerage commission by: (i) calculating the cumulative PV of transactions made by the client through the brokerage firm over a time period; and (ii) calculating the commission for a billing time period based on the calculated cumulative PV. The applicable commission may be determined based on a tiered marginal commission rate schedule.
