  • Patent number: 10433359
Abstract: A method and apparatus for multiple radio access technology (multi-RAT) access mode operation for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) are disclosed. A WTRU and a network may enable a multi-RAT access mode of operation based on at least one of WTRU subscription, a service agreement of the WTRU, a roaming status of the WTRU, a selected access point name (APN), an Internet protocol (IP) flow class, a subscriber profile identity for the WTRU, requested quality of service, or a proximity indication indicating proximity to a cell supporting multi-RAT access mode. The WTRU may send a capability indication of support of multi-RAT access to a network, wherein the multi-RAT access mode is enabled based on the capability indication. • Patent number: 10368375
Abstract: Methods and devices are described for communication using proximity services (ProSe). An aggregate maximum bit rate parameter (AMBR) may limit a data rate that may be transmitted by one or more ProSe bearers. A wireless transmit-receive unit (WTRU) may request authorization from the network prior to establishing a ProSe bearer specifying a required quality of service (QoS) or other requirements. Each ProSe bearer may have a corresponding EPS bearer to support service continuity. Packets may be evaluated by a WTRU first using a ProSe check to determine if the packet is destined for a ProSe bearer and then using a packet filter or filters in order of precedence. Embodiments may include methods of initiation communication after discovery. Embodiments may include methods of maintaining session continuity when traffic is switched between an evolved packet system (EPS) bearer and a ProSe bearer.

  • Publication number: 20190230489
Abstract: Techniques may be used for restricted direct discovery in proximity services (ProSe). A ProSe function may receive from a discovery wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a restricted ProSe Application identity (ID) of an application located at the discoverer WTRU requesting ProSe discovery. The ProSe function may derive a first and second ProSe codes for the discoveree WTRU and discoverer WTRU, and provide the ProSe codes to the discoverer and/or discoveree WTRUs. A ProSe application server may receive a revocation message from an announcing WTRU indicating a revoked WTRU. The ProSe application server may provide a ProSe discovery WTRU ID for the revoked WTRU to a ProSe Function. The ProSe function may instruct the announcing WTRU to stop announcing a ProSe code known by the revoked WTRU, and may provide a new ProSe code to at least one WTRU authorized to discover the announcing WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20190150219
Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed for providing session continuity in a 5G system. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may receive, from a session management function (SMF), a first Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message indicating a Packet Data Unit (PDU) session re-establishment. Upon receiving the first NAS message, the WTRU may determine an old PDU session ID based on the NAS message and generate a new PDU session ID. The WTRU may transmit a second NAS message indicating a PDU session establishment request. The second NAS message may include the old and new PDU session IDs. Upon receiving the PDU session establishment request, the SMF may determine that the old PDU session ID is associated with an existing PDU session for which the PDU session re-establishment is requested. The SMF may also determine that the new PDU session ID is associated with a new PDU session to be established.

  • Patent number: 10278231
Abstract: In an embodiment, a client proxy provides an operating-system-functions (OS-functions) interface to client applications. The client proxy and each of the client applications resides on a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The client proxy receives, via the OS-functions interface, respective registrations from each of a plurality of the client applications. Each respective registration indicates a respective keep-alive-message signaling rate for the corresponding registered client application. The client proxy determines an optimal signaling rate based on the respective keep-alive message signaling rates indicated by the respective registrations. The client proxy generates proxy keep-alive signaling messages that collectively convey keep-alive-message information on behalf of the registered client applications. The client proxy transmits the generated proxy keep-alive signaling messages to a network node at the determined optimal signaling rate.

  • Patent number: 10231216
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting and receiving data by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) over the control plane. The methods may receive data without the use of an Internet Protocol (IP) address. In an example method, a WTRU may enter an evolved packet system (EPS) mobility management (EMM)-registered control plane only (CPO) state after receiving an attach accepted message for CPO operation, and enter an EMM-deregistered state after receiving a detach message, a tracking area update (TAU) reject message or an attach reject message. In another method, a WTRU may switch between operational modes that use an IP address and a user plane to transmit and receive data, and the CPO mode.

  • Publication number: 20190037488
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is configured to receive at least three sets of parameters associated with power saving. A first set of the parameters is associated with an idle state. A second set of the parameters is associated with a connected state. A third set of the parameters is associated with not being in a connected state and remains registered with a network and maintains a packet data network (PDN) connection. The WTRU is configured to enter active times based on the third set of parameters on a condition that the WTRU is not in the connected state and remains registered with the network. During the active times, the WTRU is configured to monitor physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) for paging messages.

  • Publication number: 20190037459
Abstract: Techniques and devices are disclosed for efficient offloading and/or aggregation of resources by providing different levels of connection management in a network. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may support additional ECM and/or RRC states (e.g. inactive states) and/or transitions that may enable a WTRU to act without an RRC connection and/or with reduced latency. A WTRU may operate with network resources with and/or without radio resources. A WTRU may operate in parallel with a plurality of layers, including a primary layer for which the WTRU may behave according to LTE or other behavior. The WTRU may be configured for operation in a secondary layer. The WTRU may establish a secondary layer security context and/or a tunnel or routing for the secondary layer for transport of user plane data between the WTRU and a gateway. The WTRU may determine to which layer uplink data may be applicable.

  • Patent number: 10194359
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for station location based neighbor determination and handover probability estimation. A serving access point determines the location and movement measurements of a station (STA). Neighboring access points report coordinates of cell fringes of the neighboring access points. The STA sends a request for system information to the current access point along with current location of the STA. The current access point provides the system information, and the STA utilizes the system information to determine best handover candidate from among neighboring access points and an estimate of the time for handover.
