  • Patent number: 5417194
Abstract: In a method of operating a multi-cylinder Diesel engine in which fuel delivered by an engine-driven high-pressure pump is supplied to a high-pressure line from where it is admitted through injectors to the associated cylinders by an engine speed synchronous pulse and the pressure in the fuel line is determined by a pressure sensor at a certain operating point present during fuel delivery and, upon failure of the synchronous pulse, a pressure signal generated at this operating point is used to start the injection sequence with the activation of one of the injectors, and the time spans between subsequent operating points in the injection sequence are determined and, if a deviation between the time spans exceeds a limit value, another injector is selected for the start of another injection sequence, which is used as a new start of the injection sequence until the time spans between the various operating points in the high-pressure fuel supply lines which are a measure for engine speed are essentially the same.

  • Patent number: 5215052
Abstract: An internal-combustion engine has predominantly swirl-free air inflow into a shallow combustion space. A centrally arranged injection nozzle with preferably eight spray holes projects into the combustion space. The nozzle has a piston with a piston recess. Depressions are formed in the recess bottom of the piston recess and correspond to the number of injection jets. The depressions extend from the center of the piston in the direction of the injection jets, are matched to the jet shape and have a corrugated shape in the circumferential direction of the piston recess.

  • Patent number: 5097812
Abstract: The invention relates to a sloping-edge-controlled fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, in particular as a direct injector for commercial vehicles. A cam-operated pump plunger, defining the pump working chamber and having an upper control edge effecting the start of delivery and a lower sloping control edge effecting the end of delivery, is guided axially and in a rotationally movable manner in the pump cylinder and has two peripheral grooves which, with two bypasses in the pump cylinder, interrupt the delivery, each bypass, in the projection perpendicular to the axis of the pump cylinder, partly overlapping feed bores arranged in the pump cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5080063
Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanical speed governor, apparatus for an injection pump of compression-ignition internal combustion engines provided with an electronically controlled adapting device. The adapting device is provided for correcting fuel quantity delivered by the pump in the range of the full-load and starting speeds, and is in operative connection with a quantity-control member of the injection pump via a two-step stop. The two-step stop can be transferred as a function of speed from a position corresponding to the starting speed into a position corresponding to the full-load speed.

  • Patent number: 5063900
Abstract: A mechanical speed governor for a fuel injection pump of air-compressing auto-ignition internal combustion engines has a stop bracket effecting the release of the starting quantity and limiting the full-load quantity, a flyweight arrangement with integrated positive adaptation acting in the upper speed range and a rocker lever which is in effective connection with the flyweight arrangement. The stop bracket is shifted from a position corresponding to the full-load speed. The rocker lever alters the control travel of the quantity control member for full load via the stop bracket and a counterstop connected to the quantity control member, and effects a negative adaptation in the lower speed range.

  • Patent number: 5036815
Abstract: A mechanical injection-pump governor with an electronically controlled torque-control in which, as a function of parameters, a stepping motor controllable by an electronic control device adjusts with its actuator a full-load stop interacting with the quantity-adjustment member of the injection pump. The torque-control movement of the actuator is limited by an end stop situated a short distance above the maximum full-load control path and by an end stop situated a short distance below the minimum full-load control path.

  • Patent number: 4909339
Abstract: A weight and pressure measuring device, comprising a fluid filled cushion pad of limited volume, connected to a pressure indicator to measure the pressure produced during pressure loading. Such a measuring device requires little space, is lightweight, and can easily be transported and used. A blood pressure and weight measuring device has an inflatable sleeve which is connected through a tube connection, with a pump device and a pressure measuring device. In order to measure blood pressure as well as weight, by means of such a measuring device, a second inflatable device, with a limited volume, is connected with the pressure measuring device and the pump device. The device measures the pressure produced by the weight load, which is proportional to the weight being determined.

  • Patent number: 4840060
Abstract: A arrangement for determining the injection course in an internal combustion engine in which the injection development could not be used heretofore in practice as guide magnitude in the engine control because no stationary measuring sensors are available for the pressure in the injection valve and a through-flow measurement at the feed line to the injection valve is very inaccurate by reason of the occurrence of gas, respectively, vapor bubbles. According to the present invention, the pressure in the injection valve, respectively, the quantity or the flow of the occurring injection medium is derived by a computer from signals of measurement transmitters which determine the stroke of the closure element of the injection valve and the pressure in the feed line to the injection valve or the force with which the closure element of the injection valve abuts in its open end position at an abutment.

  • Patent number: 4824341
Abstract: The invention relates to a helix-controlled fuel injection pump intended for commercial vehicle internal combustion engines, with a constant-pressure relief valve and with a cam-operated pump piston, which controls a fuel bore hole in the pump cylinder, opening into the pump working space and at the same time serving for fuel supply, by an upper control edge for initiation of the injection and which controls this fuel bore hole by a lower helical control edge for ending of the injection and which furthermore controls a recess in the pump cylinder connecting the pump working space and the fuel bore hole by a peripheral groove for interruption of the injection.

  • Patent number: 4658784
Abstract: A mechanical injection pump governor is provided having a first adapting device which acts in the lower speed range up to the full-load characteristic curve of a supercharged diesel engine for adapting the delivery quantity of the injection pump to the fuel requirement of the diesel engine. The adapting device contains a spring-loaded diaphragm which is acted upon by a supercharge and is connected to the control rod of the injection pump. The lift of the diaphragm, when supercharge pressure is applied, is limited by a full load stop which determines the adapting end point. To improve the torque profile of the diesel engine, a second adapting device is provided which adjusts the full load stop. By means of this second adapting device, the full load stop can be displaced against an additional spring force when supercharge pressure is progressively applied so that the delivery quantity of the injection pump increases between the adapting end point and the rated speed of the diesel engine.

  • Patent number: 4650121
Abstract: An injection nozzle has an insert with helical swirl channels functioning as a single-jet nozzle for air-compression fuel-injection internal combustion engines, with a nozzle needle opening inwards. To achieve fuel atomization constant in terms of engine speed and load in all the operating ranges of the internal combustion engine and having a relatively invariable mushroom-like atomization form on the nozzle outlet side, the nozzle needle can be moved free of stops in the opening direction over the entire operating range, counter to the force of a spring, as a function of the fuel pressure prevailing in the pressure space, in such a way that when there is an equilibrium between the spring force and the force exerted on the needle in the pressure space, an almost always equal pressure ratio independent of the engine speed and arising in the valve-seat region is established, together with a constant outflow speed free to the combustion space.

  • Patent number: 4461169
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed which enables quantities of fuel, successively injected from different injection nozzles into a measuring chamber which is bounded by a measuring piston, to be measured, even individually, without emptying this chamber between two successive injections by actuating a drain valve. For this purpose, a unidirectional and stepwise displacement of the measuring piston--starting, in each case, from its final position following its last yielding movement--is detected by a precision position transmitter and is evaluated by an electronic recording instrument.Measurements can be made quickly with respect to all the pump elements making up an injection pump, individually and successively, using only one measuring arrangement.
