  • Publication number: 20120236315
Abstract: An interferometer includes an optical assembly for directing an input optical field, a space-variant polarization converter, and an analyzer. The optical assembly is configured and operable to produce first and second spatially separated optical fields of incident coherent radiation of substantially the same intensity and different polarizations and to define first and second spatially separated optical paths for propagation of said first and second optical fields thereby allowing interaction between the first optical field and an element affecting a phase thereof in said first optical path. The space-variant polarization converter is accommodated in said combined path and being configured and operable to simultaneously apply space-variant polarization conversion to two beams corresponding to combined first and second optical fields having different polarizations and produce radially and azimuthally polarized beams respectively. The analyzer is located downstream of said polarization converter.

  • Publication number: 20110162699
Abstract: The present invention provides a volumetric solar structure comprising one or more solar cells. The solar structure comprises a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type having a patterned surface thereof, the pattern defining an array of spaced-apart grooves of a funnel-like shape, and a second opposite conductivity type material layer positioned on at least a part of the patterned surface of the substrate. The structure thereby defines junction regions, in which charge carriers are generated by incident radiation energy to which the structure is exposed. The junction regions are located at different heights upon the patterned surface of the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20100067847
Abstract: An integrated structure and method of its fabrication are presented. The integrated structure comprises at least one waveguide; at least one fluid chamber; and an electrode assembly. The fluid chamber is associated with said at least one waveguide and configured and operable to selectively allow one or more droplets of said fluid from the fluid chamber to access at least a portion of the waveguide thereby selectively creating one or more fluid-waveguide interfaces and affecting the effective refractive index of the waveguide and light coupling at said one or more interface. The electrode assembly is configured and operable to induce an electric field within said at least one fluid chamber to affect the fluid-waveguide interface, thereby affecting light propagation in said waveguide and accordingly affecting optical properties of the integrated structure.

  • Publication number: 20050174639
Abstract: A polarizing beam-splitter apparatus, comprising: an input port through which an input beam of lights is provided; a first polarizing beam splitter that receives the input beam and splits the beam into at least a first and second beam, said first beam having substantially a first desired polarization state and said second beam having a second polarization state orthogonal to said first polarization state but possibly admixed with the first polarization state; and an optical system that receives the second beam and provides a third beam having the second polarization state and a smaller admixture of the second polarization state than the second beam.

  • Patent number: 6344893
Abstract: A super-resolving imaging apparatus employs diffractive optical elements placed on the imaging lens. This element, and the use of a modified Scheimpflug arrangement allow the conversion of degrees of freedom in one axis of a field of view to a larger degree of freedom in another axis in order to obtain a high resolution image with a wide depth of focus and large field of view. Replicas created by the diffractive elements are mutually shifted by subpixel amounts, and are combined using a Gabor transform, which is facilitated by a spatial mask placed over the detector array. The apparatus is suitable for performing distance estimation on an object within the field of view.
