    Abstract: The invention relates to a flame-retardant oriented thermoplastic film with a thickness in the range from 0.5 to 12 &mgr;m. The film comprises at least one flame retardant and has a conductive coating. This film may also possess at least one functionality additional to the flame retardancy. The expression “additional functionality” comprehends the shrinkage and the solderability. All films of this kind feature low flammability and good dielectric properties. In particular, they have a high tracking resistance and a low dissipation factor, and may also have one or more further functionalities. The invention additionally relates to a process for producing the polyester film and to its use in film capacitors.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an at least single-layer, biaxially oriented film support for magnetic recording media which is predominantly composed of crystallizable polyester, having a thickness in the range from 1 to 40 &mgr;m. The film has, over its total roll length and roll width and after it has been made up into customer rolls, an electrostatic charge build-up which is in the range from −80 kV/m to +80 kV/m, the contact pressure at the roll cutters during make-up being set in the range from 300 N/m to 350 N/m. The film is drawn between electrical discharge means, which are arranged close to the roll, along the film path in the make-up machine, and is particularly suitable for high-quality audio, video or computer tapes and for floppy disks or thermal tapes.

    Abstract: Biaxially oriented, co-extruded polyester films comprising a base layer consisting of at least 90 wt. % thermoplastic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), at least one sealable outer layer and a second non-sealable outer layer and, optionally, other intermediate layers, in addition to at least one flame-retardant agent, preferably organic phosphorous compounds. The inventive films are characterized by low inflammability, no embrittlement when subjected to thermal stress and a surface which is devoid of troublesome opacity, and are suitable for a multiplicity of uses both indoors and outside. The outer layers contain anti-blocking agents such as silicic acid having a particle diameter of preferably less than 50 nm and/or more than 2 &mgr;m.     Abstract: The invention relates to a single- or multilayer, transparent, amorphous film which comprises at least one crystallizable thermoplastic as main constituent, in particular a polyester, and also comprises at least one hydrolysis stabilizer. The hydrolysis stabilizer is preferably a phenolic compound, an oxazoline, and/or a monomeric or polymeric carbodiimide, where appropriate combined with an organic phosphite. It is preferably added in the form of a masterbatch. On exposure to moisture and heat it shows practically no embrittlement and retains its tensile stress at break. The film may have been rendered UV-resistant, or flame-retardant, or one side or on both sides have been coated, or be sealable, and/or have been corona- or flame-treated. It is generally produced by extrusion or coextrusion, the hydrolysis stabilizer being added in the form of a predried or precrystallized masterbatch. The film can be shaped particularly effectively by thermoforming.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a transparent, biaxially oriented polyester film with a base layer B which is composed of at least 80% by weight of a thermoplastic polyester, and with at least one outer layer A. Another polymeric layer made from a copolymer crosslinked using an acrylic and/or methacrylic compound, has been applied to that side of the film opposite to the outer layer A. The film has low oxygen transmission and exhibits very good adhesion between the respective layers. The coated film moveover has low coefficient of friction, excellent windability, and excellent antistatic performance. It is particularly suitable for packaging purposes, specifically for packaging foodstuffs or other consumable items. The invention further relates to a process for the production of the film.
