    Abstract: A sealable film is disclosed comprising (i) a base layer comprising polypropylene and a hydrocarbon resin and (ii) at least one top layer comprising (a) an ethylene/propylene copolymer having an ethylene content of not more than about 10% by weight, (b) a propylene/1-butene copolymer, (c) a propylene/ethylene/alpha-olefin terpolymer, or (d) a blend of two or more of (a), (b) and (c), wherein at least one of said base layer and said at least one top layer contains an anti-blocking agent or lubricant. The film possesses improved barrier properties with respect to permeability to water vapor and oxygen, and which at the same time exhibits favorable slip properties and low shrink values.

    Abstract: A transparent, coextruded, multilayer polyolefin film which can be heat-sealed at low temperatures and comprises a base layer and at least one top layer applied on one side. The multilayer film has, at 120.degree. C., a longitudinal shrinkage of greater than about 10%, preferably from about 15% to about 35%, and a transverse shrinkage of greater than about 10%, preferably from about 15% to about 35%. The multilayer film has, at 90.degree. C., a longitudinal shrinkage of at most about 10%, preferably from about 3% to about 8%, and a transverse shrinkage of at most about 10%, preferably from about 2% to about 8%. The top layers have a minimum sealing temperature of at most about 124.degree. C., preferably from about 75.degree. C. to about 110.degree. C. The film is useful as a packaging film.

    Abstract: A biaxially oriented multilayer film composed of a base layer and at least one outer layer. The base layer contains a propylene polymer. The outer layer contains two components A and B, the component A being composed of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and the component B of a copolymer of ethylene and propylene or ethylene and butylene or propylene and butylene or ethylene and another .alpha.-olefin containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms or propylene and another .alpha.-olefin containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms or of a terpolymer of ethylene and propylene and butylene or ethylene and propylene and another .alpha.-olefin containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms or of a mixture of two or more of the copolymers and/or terpolymers mentioned. The film has excellent properties and is useful, for example, as a packaging film, in a laminate, and as a backing film.

The propylene polymer of the base layer has been peroxidically degraded, its degradation factor A being in the range of about 3 to about 10. The heat-sealable olefin polymer of the outer layers is an ethylene-propylene copolymer having an ethylene content in the range of about 2 to about 8% by weight which has also been peroxidically degraded. Its degradation factor A is in the range of about 3 to 15. The film is useful as, for example, a packaging film.

    Abstract: A shrink film which is comprised of a plurality of polyolefinic layers is disclosed. The base layer comprises polypropylene and a hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin admixture, and the top layers on each side of the base layer comprise polyolefinic sealable raw materials. The film possesses a shrinkability of more than 15% in the transverse direction and of less than 6% in the longitudinal direction, both measured at 90.degree. C. Also disclosed is a process for manufacturing the film comprising coextrusion followed by stretching of the film in the longitudinal and transverse directions, whereby stretching in the longitudinal direction is performed such that the double refraction value .DELTA.n of the longitudinally oriented film is not greater than 15.times.10.sup.-3.

The film is manufactured by coextrusion followed by stretching in the longitudinal and transverse directions, whereby stretching in the longitudinal direction is performed such that the birefringence value .DELTA.n of the longitudinally oriented film does not exceed the range from 10.times.10.sup.-3 to 13.times.10.sup.-3.
